Rishi Sunak will face ‘ungovernable’ Tory party, warns Johnson supporter

  1. Guy who supports two useless losers won’t support the one most Tories actually want. I suppose the fact he wants a GE is at least something.

  2. Choppers (the ‘supporter’ in the headline) signals more chaos to come and likely indicates where a number of Tories who’ve fallen through the gaps between Sunak and Mordaunt will end up should Sunak be crowned this afternoon.

That may prove significant given his positioning on a general election:

    > “Respect is a mutual thing. If the people who are now seeking the crown want to have the respect which comes from having a mandate, then what I am saying is that the best way they can get that respect is by winning a mandate with the people, and **that’s why I think a general election is essentially the only answer.**

    >“Otherwise we’re just going to go from bad to worse. We’re going to have continuing rebellions as we try to change policies.”

  3. Maybe the Johnsonians should stop trying to undermine their new leader and get behind their own party.

Or, perhaps they should split and form their own party? Oh yeah, FPTP.

Perhaps they should push for PR, *then* form their own party. Get some actual democracy in here.

  4. So what he’s saying is the Tory party in its current capacity regardless of leadership is ineffective and incapable of carrying out its mandate.

Meaning we should call a general election. Because as he’s just pointed out if the leading party cannot form a suitable government after being given 4 or 5 times now to do so then its time to face the truth of the matter that they are unsuitable and should step aside.

  5. He isn’t wrong. Replacing the leader at the top will not solve any of the actual problems at hand. Rishi under a stable government may work, but right now the Tories are far from stable. The public want a general election, not a barrage of populist lies.

  6. Ahh, old “upskirt” Chope at it again. He really is the embodiment of all that’s worst about our parliament. An absolute scumbag of a man, total hypocrite, self-centred amoral toad with no interest in anything that doesn’t directly benefit Christopher Chope.

  7. The lie that there is one Tory party needs to be exposed.

There are multiple factions at odds with each other all under the same name. The party is done for.

  8. Just shows how self important they are. The rest of us are expected to just get on with it and act like adults when we get a new boss, even if we are not that keen on him/her as a person.
When you are pocketing about four times as much money as your average working constituent maybe you should just knuckle down and do your job.

  9. lol fucking children

Tory MPs need to get a fucking grip and have every single fucking asset stripped from them.

  10. Chope has always been a shit, he was the leader of Wandsworth Council, my home town when I was a kid, he was known by the sobriquet Chopper Chope.

  11. So would anyone, even Johnson wold struggle with a party as fractured as the current lot of Tories. Johnson would find it easier to control the more far right members but he would lose the more moderate members (by current Tory standards at least) as they will not have forgiven him for his behaviour at the end of his rule. At least Sunak will do something to fix the damage caused by Truss, which is all people really want right now.

  12. At the moment, it doesn’t matter who is in charge; the party is a bed of chaos right now. It’s like a bag full of rabid cats fighting each other while they sink further into slurry.

  13. Translation: Johnson supporters are going to try and make it ungovernable so their hero clown can have a Second Cumming.

  14. It is the likes of Christopher Chope that will make the party ungovernable. He’s the embodiment of utter irrelevant and unearned self-importance.

  15. The one thing we got out of this leadership election was a list of 60 or so Tory MPs that are absolute trash. Would be wise to deselect them moving forward.
