A fairly good explanation why people don’t want a return to the office. And why would they.
Shame they didn’t include the exorbitant cost of commuting too. Whether it’s car, bus, train, everything is sky high so why not stay at home where I can save heaps of money.
My productivity is way up now I WFH.
I’m an engineer, and a huge amount of office time is wasted because Gerald from the next row comes over to talk at your about his Volvo and his pension for 90 minutes every day and won’t take social cues like having headphones in or being told that you’re too busy for chit-chat.
There are also way less “initiatives”, “workshops” and “summits” taking up my time because Karen from HR needed something to do. There were so many meetings on topics so vague that they’re not even a grammatically correct sentance like “delivering on our strategy value” or “solutionising our process offering”. Always utterly futile wastes of time. Drove me nuts.

Now I can actually put the radio on and do some work.

Of course, I miss my work friends. But that’s easily sorted with a Whatsapp chat full of memes and the occasional in-office day where I hide on a different floor where no-one knows me, and then invite the people I like to the pub afterwards. Good times.

But high density occupancy offices are a mosh pit of behaviours and competition for space.

Who on earth is getting that much space? I don’t think I ever worked anywhere that gave me any more than about 4 sq m. It may be more than just coincidence that I now work from home with the luxury of a whole room to myself.
Have to admit I saw a bit of myself in this one. Sometimes someone in the office does something so annoying it’s almost like I find myself looking for it to be annoyed by it.
A few years back working on some new office builds into the mezzanine space of warehouses I was somewhat shocked to discover there is no requirement for offices to have windows. Further research showed that was just us and Latvia IIRC, and I’m betting after joining the EU Latvia changed.
I love when people follow a trend of things getting progressively shitter and assume it will somehow get better in the future
