Poland will eventually recognize that gays are not a threat to its way of life and that we are your friends and your family members who have the same aspirations, hopes, and dreams as you do. Pride parades would be unnecessary in an equal society, and I personally find the hypersexualization of them to be appalling and would never participate in one. All the more reason why extending marriage rights to gays is for the benefit of everyone. When you are excluded by law from society’s most important civilizing institution and subject to prejudice and discrimination, you are liable to act out in unhealthy ways and rebel against the values of society at large. It’s only natural. In my own case, I am so thankful that I was born to very conservative but gay friendly parents, who gave me a wonderful template to follow for my own life — no premarital sex, a faithful lifelong marriage, and bringing up children with strong morals.
I hope that more and more people recognize that gays are not monolithic — we are not an ideology or anti-family. We are just regular people, some good, some bad, but human just like you.
