Bug in hotel. What is it?? Google image says it’s a Tick, but I read they’re not common in Greece. A lot of blood came out when we killed it.

  1. If you find it stuck on your skin sucking the life out of you, leave it as is and go to hospital. It needs to be removed in the hospital by a professional otherwise its legs might stay under your skin and cause huge infection. Long story short, its a tick.

  2. It’s super a tick and they very much are a problem in Greece especially in summer. If it bit you, google proper removal methods and do not use heat or chemicals as that can make them regurgitate into you. Go to a Greek pharmacy and ask if they have repellant for ticks. If it helps, say endomo-ktono for chi-vee-kya. It can help especially if your room is close to grassy and wildspaces.

Edit: Another word for them is chi-bouri, not sure which one is more broadly applicable. May need to refer to both.

  3. Ticks are not common at all in Greece but given you are at a hotel I wouldn’t put it past me a tourist carried it here without knowing.

  4. It’s a tick.

I’m not sure why people are saying they are not common in Greece. Maybe not in cities, but you are bound to find them if you do outdoors activities, particularly in places where animals are grazing.

You should check yourself, they grab onto your legs and climb upwards, usually preferring places like the groin or armpits to bite. Removal is straightforward and you need tweezers or a tick removal tool. Do not use alcohol or other liquids to remove it as it might cause it to vomit its stomach contents back into you. You can find instructional videos on YT. I’m not sure if we have Lyme’s in this country, but it wouldn’t hurt to pay attention to any weird ring-shaped rashes(google images is your friend) you might develop.

  5. Learnt during my stay at a camp that if a tick bit you, just spit on them and lightly spin them anticlockwise (don’t straight up grab them and spin, just rub your finger), they fall out that way without leaving their legs in you. Removed like 20 of them from myself that way, they are so annoying.

  6. Ticks are common in the countryside in Greece ofc. And this is a tick. And it should die along with the rest of its species. Disgusting little assholes.
