Zowel OVLD en CDV op de radio deze ochtend “we brengen onze strategische voedsel bevoorrading in gevaar”….. euh we exporteren 80%.

He’s right. There should’ve been a change over a decade ago. Now that it’s urgent it’s going to hurt of course… Every minister that’s tried to change something has been attacked immediately. To me it seems the farmers and CD&V are not open to debate, they just want to have it their way. Something has to change and it actually already had to have been done yesterday, so please stop sulking and work together. The current agriculture is not environmentally sustainable. Of course we see farmers as enemies of nature… they’re literally killing our soil. The government has a lot of responsibility in that, so I absolutely understand why farmers are upset, but something has to change and we all just have to accept that.
De boeren zien af omdat ze hun producten tegen dumpprijzen moe(s)ten verkopen aan supermarkten. Maar daar had CD&V blijkbaar geen problemen mee.

That’s what you get when your politicians don’t think about the future. They should have stopped the expansion of farms a decade ago and slowly tightened the screws on emission norms. But no, it’s always only about money and votes and now we’re here.
Nobody is realizing here that this is a European issue. The Dutchies to the North are in even deeper shit than us at this very moment. Anyway, the agriculture subsidies (EAFRD/EAGF…) coming from the EU were reformed a couple years back (with the big accession of eastern Europe in 2004) which essentially lead to the extinction of your stereotypical small Flemish farmer. Only truely big – economy of scale – farms were viable. Imagine the surprise when a couple years down the line – after all the farmers that were left already invested multiple millions – those big farms on relatively tiny patches of land proved ecologically unsustainable due to nitrogen etc. Following European regulations led us here and nothing else.
Niemand ziet nog het bos tussen de bomen in deze industrie van de subsidies. Zowel nationale als Europese subsidies hebben van deze bedrijfstak een zieke patient aan het infuud gemaakt. Door het lobbywerk van de boerebond werd iedereen naar grootschaligheid gedreven en gaan de kleine dood… stop met de handel te subsidieren en laat een normale prijs tot stand komen. Het heeft geen zin om hier onze gesubsidieerde bonen in de grond te rijden om de supermarkten te vullen met Ethiopische of Marokaanse… om niet van onze wintertomaten te spreken…
Maybe someone can answer this for me, because I can’t find it online. They say that it will no longer be allowed to harvest after 1st of September, but that’s only for things like potatoes, no? There are tons of other vegetables that can be sowed and harvested after September? I feel like they’re using this “no harvesting after the 1st of September” as a clickbait.
