A far-right MP has been given a 15-day ban from France’s National Assembly for shouting “they should go back to Africa” as a black colleague talked about immigration.
Grégoire de Fournas of National Rally (RN) said his remark had not been aimed at Carlos Martens Bilongo but at migrants trying to reach Europe by sea.
Mr Bilongo said he had been born in France and the remark was “shameful”.
MPs voted on Friday to suspend him and dock half his allowance.
They take this kind of xenophobia much more seriously in France it seems. Here in Sweden our far right party put up a slogan on one of the subway trains in Stockholm with the text “welcome to the repatriation train, next stop Kabul” and they still increased their support for the upcoming election.
I am wondering why far-right politicians with oblivous dabbles in racist xenophobia and extremism are allowed in democratic politics in the first place.
Nazism and Fascism are criminalised in Europe right? Yet it looks like individuals with opinions eding towards these two movements are let free to do and say whatever they want without many repercussions until they push it too far.
But this is just my personal opinion.
Beating women, hating foreigners the french left is in shambles.
