What will be left of Ireland and its culture when the local warehouse attic gym is gone from our land?
>“All these people who aren’t allowed in because they are making a choice, that is discrimination,” she said.
>
>“Some certain ethnic groups used to not be allowed in a pub. That’s discrimination. We are talking about principles here. I’m mentally very down not being able to go the gym.”
right.. because people choose to be part of an ethnic minority..
This is such an unfair position to put business owners in, especially when it’s due to a measure that doesn’t even do anything helpful
WOW! 200 people out of 370 different gyms……
Close the gyms!
Weddings can go ahead and covid certs are not even required. Again, if the restrictions made sense we would all be a lot more understanding.
I wonder how he feels about the fb pages run by antivaxxers promoting boycotts of any businesses that enforce masks or vaccine certs.
I’m vaccinated but I’m really not sure this is the road we want to be going down. Do we really want to discourage the most at risk group from exercising? Are these vaccine requirements going to be in place for the foreseeable future? Research is showing that viral load is the same wether vaccinated or not so you’re not putting vaccinated people more at risk, just yourself. Isn’t that a choice we should be allowed to make without having these things taken away? Whatever about the pub, but a gym is very valuable to people’s mental and physical health. It’s an easy distraction and scapegoat for the government’s terrible policy and handling of the pandemic, we have one of the highest uptake rates in the world. How many shots will we have to have? 3? 4? One every six months? For how long? I need to see some data on this. One in ten thousand jabs are having heart issues – https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40758750.html
I’ve a family history of heart problems so I’m not mad about taking jabs every six months, I’d rather keep fit and limit my contacts.
We could really do with a little bit of nuance, not everything is black and white and the debate here is becoming extremely polarised.
Maybe they just went to a different gym.
If you’re so adamant of applying “consequences” and I’m infering a joy in that, but open to that not being the case, surely you’re informed enough to know what an out looks like
K
Go back 15 months and I would happily bet that over half of those 200 people were being pushy about “the minute the vaccine is out we have to reopen, because we’ll all be vaccinated.”
The gym crowd were possibly the most insufferable during Wave 1, and with amongst the least justification.
Some college degrees require mandatory vaccination (nursing). Some jobs require mandatory vaccination (again, nursing). Some schools might require mandatory vaccination. The ‘discrimination’ rhetoric in this context is unfounded. Mandatory vaccination to access services or jobs is not new.
Wow that’s a piss poor article. 1.4pc change is not statistically significant, even the gym owner knows that.
It’s not RNA vaccine, it’s mRNA and they have been found to be safe and effective.
The reason for having a new medicine is to meet the challenge of the ‘novel’ coronavirus.
Transmission is by aerosol, not touching machines. This is all stuff that is known but not by the author.
>Biancha, who did not give her surname, said she was not anti-vaccination, but did not trust the RNA vaccines which are currently being administered.
I guarantee she isn’t taking J&J/AstraZeneca non-mRNA vaccines either and this is just an excuse to make her feel smart.
You’d swear getting a vaccine was as difficult and expensive as buying a house the way they go on about it.
Is that cuz they all listen to Joe Rogan podcast?
“Some certain ethnic groups used to not be allowed in a pub. That’s discrimination. We are talking about principles here. I’m mentally very down not being able to go the gym.”
I have one thing to say to this person:
Choose life.
How many people just cant go because they’re busy right before christmas and/or its an extra drag to go to the gym after work when its cold and dark so early
Josh’s dad
Good. Probably weirding people out there anyway.
Think I might join a gym now
So a smaller falloff in business than nightclub owners?
Oh no. Anyway
Where is the logic in this someone tell me? What good does it do to ban such a small tiny minority of people from gyms?
So the vaccinate is a substitute for improving your health at a gym now? Society would be a utopia if a jab solved problems like this.
Not remotely discrimination. Fool is just being greedy.
Imagine calling a height restrictions on a ride discrimination. Its for safety, and not just for other folks on the ride but for you aswell.
We cant protect the unvaccinated in these situations and the only option is to keep them away from potential harm and this is entirely based on their choice. Choice = consequences
Honestly any members he loses he’ll likely gain in vaccinated people to even out the difference. I’ve actually stopped going to the gym but will plan on getting back to it after christmas and will feel better knowing those inside are vaccinated.
Didn’t some study from Qatar show that the vaccinated, after like 6 months, actually had a 23 percent increased chance of spreading coronavirus?
Oh no. Anyway.
Fuck antivaxers, they shouldn’t be allowed anywhere.
So that works out to… 1.4% of his customers pausing their memberships. Keep in mind that lots of people are traveling abroad for Christmas to be with their families, so that figure also includes those people. So all in all, an insignificant number of people cancelled their memberships.
That doesn’t stop Redditors with 100k karma who post on Reddit all day and haven’t exercised in 15 years posting about how “people who go to the gym are more likely to be anti vax”. Guess they need to feel superior about themselves.
The only annoying thing so far has been needing to show your cert every time to get in. Very beaucratic especially when there’s like 4 staff so eventually you’ve shown them all once and instead of the common sense to go “i know you have it” it’s the rigmarole every gym session.
Minor gripe
Gotta say regardless of their vivid status the type of person who would generally be against mask wearing or vaccines make gyms a nightmare. Delighted to see the 15/20 morons gone from the local gym. Big problem now is the 2 main female trainers are anti Vax and the gym owner won’t answer emails asking if his staff are vaxed
I assume these places all have loads of ventilation and hepa filters as well?
But even with that, a gym is a super spreader location. All that deep breathing, sweating etc.
That guy was in a porno before
I love the fact that my gym has been cleared of anti-vaxxers.
You could hear them conversing loudly amongst themselves about how they hadn’t been vaccinated like it was something to be proud of. It made me feel very uncomfortable being near them and using the equipment after them (grunting and spluttering saliva droplets like we all do in the gym).
It’s much better (and safer) now.
God the Irish Times has turned into a rag
Quick, someone in government give this man a blank cheque bailout!

So 1.5% of his ~14,000 customers.
