I know i can use these as a non smoker, but its kinda weird there are no other benches here. Imagine old people or kids have to sit right next to the smokers.
because the other 99% of all benches in such stations are for non-smokers.
This isn’t normal: certainly every station I’ve been to has had seats not in smoking areas (in fact, most of them have no seats at all in the smoking areas).
Bring a Schraubenschlüssel next time and move the bench out of the smoking area
While I’ve never seen a station where ALL the seats where in the smokers area, this picture makes me very mad, too!
People who really really need to sit down are often old, pregnant, disabled, etc and shouldn’t be forced to inhale the smoke

Dortmund HBF is like this and I absolutely hate this. Germans have such distain for adequate seating for people.
It’s the only bench and you don’t need a cigarette to sit there. It’s just a bench for everyone where it is allowed to smoke. Just like on any other bench in the world
I’m a smoker. Not a super addicted one but I smoke a couple cigarettes a day. And I don’t believe in the rights of smokers.
Smokers should have no rights that involve annoying others even if the annoyance is minimal.
Just ban smoking in public areas for good.

Cause the construction workers who dragged it there wanted a smoke?
You will notice that smoker sections are typically at the *end* of a given platform, as you can see here, right before the roof ends. My guess is that the benches were already there when they had to pick a new smoking station at the end of the platform.
I guess there is some variance depending on age/last renovation of the station, but this is true for any modernization. Of course, even more modern would be NO SMOKING IN THE STATION AT ALL… But no smoking signs are totally ignored and I’ve never ever seen a DB employee or Bahnhof Polizei *ever* reprimand someone for smoking at will wherever they want in a station, even indoor ones.
