I agree with this, but would feel incredibly sorry for the sports women an men that wouldn’t participate

If you’re going to boycott something do something that matters, like stop buying stuff from there, but we cannot do that because we have and the rest of the western world have systematically fucked our own production lines in favour of using them as a manufacturing base. It would take 10-20-50 years to fix this problem.
We could boycott the winter Olympics alongside African nations. We could also ban China from cricket matches whilst we are at it. The sentiment is right but the event is wrong.

Sporting boycotts and bans helped raise international awareness of apartheid South Africa. On their own they achieve little more than that but in conjunction with trade and travel restrictions it’s a powerful tool.
It provides very clear message from the rest of the world saying you are fucked up, your regime is fucked up and until you sort it out, you are not welcome to mix with the rest of us.

Oh yes, China demolished their culture, kidnapped their Messiah, repressed the shit out of the population and moved a ton of Han Chinese into the region to breed out the indigenous Tibetans.
And then they hosted a massive Summer Olympics anyway.
