So much for the end of franchising. If anyone thinks the centralised GB Railways will be anything other than a total disaster, then they’re deluded.
This is good news for me as a Chiltern user, they are consistently at or near the top of the punctuality league. The trains may be a bit old but they are always clean and tidy.
Chiltern Railways (in their various guises) are the only one of the original franchisees to survive the whole franchise experiment. Happy to be proven wrong, but although the company has changed over time since the original M40 Trains its always been due to buy outs and mergers compared to a company losing a franchise and a new one taking over.
