Food, Glorious Food 🍲 got chatting recently about grocery bill, cost of living ect ect. All had wildly differing ideas on food spend for a week. What’s yours 🍲 I split between Dunnes, Aldi and Lidl coming in about €100 🙄

  1. Just checked this today actually.

Averaging about €180 a week over the last 3 months for 2 adults and 1 toddler, mostly from Dunnes or SuperValu.

  2. I can get by with about €40-50 for myself for the week not including if I get takeaway that weekend

I usually just bulk buy and don’t really change what I have for dinner most nights. Oats, Rice, Peanut butter etc usually last 2 weeks so I mostly spend on bulk chicken fillets from the butchers, minced beef and maybe a steak, the rest is just fruit or veg which only costs maybe €5-7 all together

  3. 2 adults, 2 kids, one of whom is a bottomless pit, around €200 per week in Tesco. That would include toiletries and cleaning products et cetera.

  4. Ours is between €60 @ €70 a week for two people, we shop in Tesco… But we get the odd few things in Lidl…

  5. I’d say no more than €50 for two adults (usually closer to €35), we largely shop at Lidl but sometimes pop into Tesco or Dunnes if it’s handy cos we live in Dublin city centre. We eat a lot of cheap foods (legumes, cabbage, spuds, veg, oats, tofu) and go for yellow sticker items where possible. Also frozen veg is key, bag of peas is like a euro.

  6. We budget €150 a week for food, toiletries, wash stuff, generally anything bought from Tesco, for a family of 2 adults 1 toddler.

  7. €225-250, sometimes €275 maybe. Vouchers coupons etc can reduce it. 2 adults, 4 kids, groceries, toiletries, cleaning products, toilet/ kitchen paper, some adult beverages. 3 meals a day, school lunches, snacks etc etc etc. super Valu, and occasionally dunne’s. Try to do it once a week, with a plan. Probably spending another €50 or so on bits and pieces

  8. Ours is about €75 a week for two adults. We shop at Dunnes, Lidl and ethnic shops (Asian, Eastern European). That’s breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. We’re adventurous cooks, and use a pressure cooker, air fryer and slow cooker.

  9. Lidl, all home cooked meals for dinners and lunches, 2 adults – €80-€100 a week (depending on toiletries and cleaning products etc) but that’s up form €65 this time last year.

  10. About 70 quid a week for me but that would include about 2-3 dinners shared with my boyfriend & would usually include a bottle of wine or a few beers. Usually Lidl, sometimes Tesco or Aldi. Ocasional butcher cook in dish meals (2 for 10 euro ish)

  11. €180 all in Lidl. Two adults three kids, one of which is a toddler. Rarely get anything that isn’t full home cooked meal. Easily up €60 from six months ago.

  12. Two adults. Main shop in aldi or lidl. Try to go to the fruit and veg shop and butcher too.€100 – €120 give or take. That includes toiletries etc.

  13. About the same as you for two people, maybe a little bit more. That includes cleaning products, alcohol and anything else you’d buy in a grocery store, but not takeaway/restaurant food, which we probably have on average 1.25 times per week. We mostly do Dunnes (love the voucher system), and some bits and pieces in Lidl and Aldi.

  14. €70-€100 a week in Aldi for a couple. We would get about 5 big bags of shopping out of it. Compared to Dunnes that much would be about 3

  15. €70 in tesco for one man, thats all dinners, lunches, breakfast and anything else needed like laundry stuff or shower gel etc.

  16. 2 in our household, 150 euro equivalent would see us through if we shop in the cheaper places, shopping in the big shopping centres? You wouldn’t see change from 300 euro equivalent.

  17. Family of 4. Incl cleaning products, pet food and alcohol, approx €200 per week. Pretty much entirely Lidl but also ethnic shops and specific pet food.

  18. Lidl or Aldi. €150 per week for 2 adults and 2 kids. Includes household stuff. Alcohol bought elsewhere. Used to be €120 a week up to a few months ago.

  19. Wtf are people spending money on. I average 50 a month for a family of 4. We cook 3 meals a week, nothing processed or that comes in a box. And that includes lunches.

  20. 5 of us here – about 120€ a week, Lidl, Tesco, veg box & a lot from the Olio app and Too good to go while we’re on days out. This includes nappies, toiletries, house hold items etc.

  21. About 60 a week in aldi, just 2 of us.

I go twice a week though, if i do one big shop something always ends up going off. Luckily can walk to one

But i’ll buy a load of spices sauces and stuff in the aisian shop every two or so. That probably knocks up my avg a bit

  22. I’ve went between Tesco online, Aldi and Lidl over the last while and struggle to get the weekly shop below €120. This is for 2 adults and a 5mth old. The baby is breastfed and so needs nothing really, and my appetite hasn’t increased despite BFing.

Everything has gone up. The weeks we need laundry detergent, cleaning products, toilet paper etc it easily reaches €145.

  23. Usually €30-€40 a week in Aldi for just me, that’s all meals and a couple of treats.

  24. Where do ppl shop? I do all or most of the shopping in Tesco. I have mobility issues so the delivery is a lifesaver. I also find if you shop own brand tesco you’re getting a very similar price to lidl or aldi.
Went to lidl today to see if I could get a better price on washing powder and the like.

The prices were identical on a per kg basis. Lidl maybe had a cent in the difference, but really not enough to make a dent in the totals.

I think sometimes people go from say Tesco finest or the most expensive name brand and compare to a lidl own brand. Yeah, of course there’s a massive difference. But Tesco has own brands too!

  25. Used to spend 160 to 220 a week for myself, the wife and our two toddlers, but that was Tesco delivery.

Switched to shopping myself (with the two boys) in Lidl and now it’s typically 120 a week with the occasional 160 if I spot a few handy things to get so in most cases now we’re saving over 40 a week.

  26. about €150 between 2 adults, not counting smokes.

And yes, I do shop in Aldi for things i like, not just cause there cheaper. think thats a silly way to view things. like going to pennys for jeans or long life items..never going to get sorted.

  27. My partner and I manage about sixty between us, sometimes more expensive because of things like detergent but yeah. Mostly vegetarian meals though!
