I also have absolutely no idea who the bloke on the right is, but that watch looks like a Richard Mille to me which just adds insult to injury. Those watches are tens up to hundreds of thousands of euros.
This is exactly the point of a boycot. The people in Russia didn’t choose the war but they still suffer from the economical sanctions. People who didn’t strike were still unable to take the train to work this week due to it.
just watch the ‘fifa uncovered’ series on netflix, it should explain a bit.
the way this organ gets to work is mental.
Some people can’t say no to money.
Just stop watching and see how fast the money fades… no viewers, no money…
For me WK 2022 never happend, looking forward to EK 2024 Germany.
Because “voetbal is een feest”. And because 80% of the people are fucking stupid enough not to understand the fuzz around the WK.
And yes, there comes the argument that you should then also ban all other morally questionable events. Like I said: those 80%…
Out of solidarity I’m not going to watch any matches.
Wasn’t planning to anyway, but that’ll show FIFA and Qatar!
Edit: every downvote proves that people take football way too serious.
money
Panem et circenses
Might as wel boycott the olympic games then. Mass “removal” of stray animals/ homeless people, workers building future ghost cities for peanuts, huge stretches of land going to waste to buildings made to not last a single decade etc. Same situation, but normalized.
Are you also boycotting gas stations and not refueling your car since the oil is coming from Katar? I am pretty sure that almost everyone of these boycotters is still driving his car. And I am not even going to start talking about the clothes you wear, electrical devices, food and so on which is done in a great amount by child labour and exploitation of workers (or more like slaves laborer). Stop being so hypocrite.
Because spouting that I’m not going to watch something I wasn’t planning on watching anyway is hypocritical. Not to mention the fact that I watch F1 like crazy and you have those some dictatorships literally sponsorring teams.
I did see that video of the German interviewer making that ambassador uncomfortable. And stuff like that is really part of why those types of backwards countries still need to be included.
You know for sure that some football players will be sporting symbols showing support to the violently oppressed minorities in those countries. There’s a reason that religious fruitcakes even here are so against showing any sign of support to minorities, it helps normalize and increases acceptance. It doesn’t do it fast enough, but short of invading and violently enforcing it, nothing works fast enough. And violently enforcing what you believe doesn’t stop people.
Good question

I’m Welsh and it could be the only world cup we get to in my lifetime…and it’s in fucking Qatar. I think the players feel the same way. Just you wait and see, I’m certain they’ll perform some sort of elaborate protest, like play really badly, and get knocked out straight away- all in the name of human rights!
For every minute of football at the WC, 3 slaves died.
are.. are you really suggesting a WK boycot to a Belgian sub?? I mean I get it don’t get me wrong. but you understand you are basicly preaching to the choir right?
The problem is that the players are then penalised for that. It’s years too late to react without impacting “innocent people”. Hence, I will still follow some games.
Me watching the WC will also not benefit Qatar (not sure if they get money from the cost payed by RTBF to broadcast the games but even that, me watching would barely matter). Note that I don’t caution going there as that’s supporting/benefiting Qatar.
That being said, what I like is that the PR stunt that Qatar planned with the WC is going really bad for them. Instead of promoting the country, more people are now aware of the problems of that country and that might force a lot of people to reconsider supporting them, e.g. flying qatar airways, going there to visit, ..(I’m already kind off boycotting them). So while I will watch the WC, I will also make sure to discuss all these problems.

Because nobody cares, just as nobody cares Azerbaijan is a dictatorship violating humanitarian laws and boasting about it publicly while, reselling russian gas and hosting Formula 1 without any repercussions from the world.
It’s time to realize that if there is no political gain in a boycott there is no boycott
probably the same reason why didn’t boycott it when it was in Russia, or in South Africa, or when the Olympics were in China.

we only care when we can make a nice facebook post or similar about it. and then we watch it anyway.
