‘Dublin’s vanishing buses will mean vanishing passengers’

  1. Dublin bus is essentially a hostage situation for a lot of people though.

They rely on the bus for their primary transport and no matter how badly it’s running or how much Dublin bus cockslaps its customers in the face, they can’t go anywhere else and have no options.

  2. I find the focus on real time info being inaccurate interesting, because if the buses were being run to begin with it’d be less of an issue.

Go Ahead still hasn’t recovered from the drop in drivers since last winter so I doubt it’ll be fixed anytime soon.

  3. I’ve always been very aware of how incredibly lucky I was to have a job that didn’t care too much about starting times, because so often it was just a complete gamble as to when I would arrive into work because of the inconsistency of public transport. If I had to be in for a strict time, say 9am with no flexibility, I don’t think I would’ve been able to even have a job.

You can get a good routine going and reliably make it to work for a reasonable time about 70% of the time. But then there’s always the chance that the bus just doesn’t arrive, and then you go on Twitter and see everyone complaining about your bus and you can see it’s all the passengers that you see in the mornings profiles and the poor Dublin bus customer service representative is telling you your bus arrived at your stop 5 minutes ago, when you’ve been standing at the stop for the last 15.

I mostly WFH now and the biggest reason for that is I just don’t think it’s acceptable to have to spend 1hr+ on a bus to commute a tiny distance from a Dublin suburb to Dublin city centre. I don’t really care, my job is happy and I’m happy so it’s great for me, but I used to spend close to €500 a month on lunches, coffees & after work pints (yes, it was very stupid) when I did commute 5 days a week, so in reality it’s the economy that loses out, and I’d say I’m not the only one.

  4. The “Real Time” info is not really that Real Time isn’t it. I mean how difficult this can be to set up correctly? When I get the taxi via app I can see exactly where my taxi driver is and that’s pretty much real time… like how this is so difficult to achieve with busses? All the Dublin Bus/GoAhead/TFI apps are absolute rubbish

  5. Well, if the passengers are on them when they vanish, i’d expect so.

What#s happening, is fucking voldemort back again.

  6. Went to the game on the weekend. First stop was at Ringsend road as the terminus is right beside it. Clock counts down anyways and we see a bus come out that says not in service.

It then goes over the bridge and the lights switch on with our bus number on it. Completely just skipped our stop leaving me and id say 15-20+ people then stranded for another 30+ mins. Never seen anything like it before.

  7. When all of Dublin’s bus drivers can’t afford to live in Dublin, what the fuck do you expect, honestly?

  8. have we developed some sort of backrooms meme where people land after they’ve stepped on a bus that disappears off the routes? 🤣
