There were boys in my class who I am sure were abused there. A Brother used to invite boys “for a drive” in his car all the time. I didn’t know at the time what was going on, but looking back makes my insides recoil.
Luckily for me the only abuse I got was a kick in the arse or a slap around the head for acting the bollocks now and then.
Sick fucking fucks.
Sooner or later most rational people realize that all religions are just a front for grifting, child abuse and abusing power over other peoples lives. Kick them all out of every school and health care facility in the country. Now.
These sickos were also government protected
Ban priests from all places of education. They don’t belong there.
We still don’t even have separation of church and state. Fuck FFG.
There was a documentary on the radio as I was driving home this evening. Focused mostly on the younger of the brothers. It was harrowing broke both their lives. The school were told something was happening moved the priest for a few months then let him back and the abuse started over if anything escalated.
The priest was charged but there were high court challenges eventually to the supreme Court. He got off because he was to old by the time it came out. Who funded the defence and was it done to keep the name of the school out of the media.
Does anyone remember a teacher in the junior school, Willow Park, that was allegedly found with a student in the Tara Towers Hotel?
It was the talk of the school at the time and I’m fairly certain that another teacher admitted it happened. The alleged offender ended up leaving the school, the abused kid returned to the school but I don’t think stayed in the school too long afterwards and it was sort of never spoken about. I’d be talking mid-1980’s here.
Just listening to it now. The bit where the father rings one son to tell him his brother has been abused and he admits he was too. That poor man, all of them.
How the fuck can people get married in a church? Have their kids baptised? You’re literally endorsing the rape of children
I cannot wait for the day that we rip the catholic church out of this country and force them to pay for their sins. I can only hope that it happens in my lifetime.
These cunts still own schools up and down the country and have never paid the price for what they’ve done, and continue to do to the Irish people. We still have gender separated schools and a bunch of other religious nonsense pressed into our education system at the behest of these self serving scumbag child raping bastards.
I really hope the next generation of the Irish people have the courage to hold them accountable for the things they’ve done.
Does anyone who would have been in Willow Park in the mid-80’s remember that story of the teacher being found with a pupil in the Tara Towers? The teacher had the initials EB.
I had the misfortune of going there for 10 years, and I can confidently say this doesn’t end there. In fact, one of the key figures still endorsed by Blackrock College has had many allegations swept under the rug just enough to keep it out of the public eye. They’ve done a good fucking job keeping the spiritain’s influence as dominant as ever. Education and Catholicism should not be in the same place.
Heart broken listening to this documentary earlier and LiveLine today, the bravery of these men to share their story. Did a lot of swearing at the radio listening to the Supreme Court saying the priest was too old to stand trial. Too many historical abuse cases (the George Gibney ones too) had this same treatment, the “too long ago” excuse.
Heard “Stephen” on Liveline today. What an eloquent, admirable man. Same year in Willow and Blackrock as myself, and I remember clearly the three priests who abused him. I was never aware of the abuse at the time – maybe a bit oblivious – but in retrospect I think it explains some of the school’s peculiarities. Reflecting back makes me wonder whether abuse might have been behind apparent suicides of a student and a former student from my year.
The infamous Willow Park teacher, Eddie Baylor, was the subject of discussion today on Joe Duffy. If all is kids at the time knew about this fuckin scumbag, how the hell did the adults and teachers not know?
Systematic hiding of the abuse that went on must have been endemic throughout the school and the religious order.
