We don’t have a FPTP/two party system in Ireland, people can and do vote for third, fourth, fifth and even beyond parties and then can rank their further choices so even if their first choice isn’t elected their votes aren’t wasted. Our electoral system is literally designed to solve this issue. The Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael dichotomy is unconnected to how our elections work and entirely related to the electorate wanting them.
