Im not Cypriot but i think in some places you can find that kind of people. My wife said to me that most of Cypriot people interested in her over the years wanted to buy her with money. So maybe she saw that side of Cyprus that i didnt.
Imho it really does check out for many (if not most) people. It is amazing how little compassion I see towards struggling immigrants by a people who themselves were by and large piss poor until very recently.
Now because some hit the jackpot with inheriting and selling off some previously useless land that they used to buy an unreasonably large house and an unsustainable luxury car, they are the king of the world and spit on the dirty rabble.

I have to agree, tho. The amount of cypriot people, especially women, who act like they are a celebrity living in New York, might not be the majority, but everytime I see them it makes me laugh. I’d say it’s true. But that is one of the cons of living in a small, closed society where people care too much about what others think. There’s a lot of impression management going on and part of that is acting as if you’re wealthy/important because for some reason we think that makes you valuable.
There’s a lot of xenophobia and racism as well. It’s gotten better over the years but we still have a long way to go. There’s quite a few of those rotten apples around I’m afraid.
Biggest racists are in Hellenic bank 🤣
It’s usually the people in the middle that show off the most and are most obnoxious. There are definitely some obnoxious and horrid cypriots, but having lived in the UK I feel it’s the same in other countries as well.

back in the village days the women had to compete with each other in the broxenia (arranged marriage) reception room where around 5 of them would sit waiting for the “gentleman” to pick them.
this notion still exists today in subterfuge manner, the women are easily married to the person of their choice but they still have to “compete”. This situation also exists in Japan and the reason for the rapid culture shift of traditionalism into novelty anima cat girls dancing in spastic positions in order to give themselves an identity.
