I feel like the States’ went through this Club Card growing pain so you wouldn’t have to- who would pay €70 for 240 Lights, Tesco?

  1. It was like 60 euros for 3 water filters or 30 if you had the card. The same 3 were 15 euro in Lidl. It’s a scare tactic to get you to use the card to think your getting a bargain.

    Fuck this.

  2. I’ve been asked by staff in tesco when I’m using the self service for my club card, they scan it for the person who doesn’t get one, and I get their points. It’s win win really.

  3. They just inflate the normal prices to offer “amazing” discounts on the clubcard price to make people sign up, its really effective, tesco had a block of cheese for a 5er the other week, was on clubcard down to 2 euro … the same cheese was on special for 2 quid in supervalu

  4. Stopped shopping there too because of this. Regularly forget my clubcard. I still got a couple of things there that my son likes. They jacked up the price of those but kept the lower price on the clubcard deal. We tried out the alternatives from Lidl and now he’s used to them so no need to darken their doors anymore.

  5. I’m in Texas visiting my brother and every transaction in a shop goes like this…

    “your total is €50”

    “ok, card charge please”

“sure, will you be paying with our company’s credit card today?”

    “no”

“would you like to apply for one right now?”

    “er, no thanks”

“you get 25% off just for applying”

    “I’m not a resident”

(ignoring that) “a further 10% off if you’re approved”

    “no”

    “you sure? It’s very popular”

    “yes thanks”

“OK, so I just need your details”

“no, I meant yes I’m sure I don’t want it”

    “how about our saver’s club?”

    “no thanks, I’m just visiting”

“you get an automatic 30% off this purchase and guaranteed 25% off your next purchase”

“can I just pay for this please?”

    Confused look.

    “Um, OK then”.

    It’s painful.

  6. It’s really just a Fuck You tax to anyone who only casually shops in Tesco.

A club card expires if you don’t use it for a period, so the thinking is that you need to regularly shop there so your card doesn’t expire before you need to actually use it.

  7. That’s call PRICE GOUGING. Basically if you don’t have the club card “Tesco will charge 100% more. Just rip you off.
It ridiculous and the reason I’ve stopped going to Tesco.

  8. They just got some gaming chair in the other day for Black Friday I think its supposed to be the promotion. €200 without club card or €95 with the club card . Really forcing you to get one if you don’t already

  9. I just stopped shopping there when I saw it. Like I stopped going to the mountain warehouse. Half price with our card. Fuck off lads.

  10. I got three things the other day, scanned my clubcard and didn’t get any of the advertised discounts. Had to ask to get it sorted. Their prices are regularly wrong at the till and the dual pricing might be part of this.

  11. I have to think that they are losing money on this venture. I have put plenty of stuff back on the shelf and walked out and went down to Lidl rather than give it to them

  12. Yes I noticed this and it pissed me off no end. The issue is you are not being rewarded for having a club card. You are being penalised for not having one. So in a sense it could be argued it’s more “you better not opt out” rather than “opt in for rewards”. It’s immoral.

  13. All the “I just stopped shopping there” angry people gonna have few places or expensive places to shop in the near future.

  14. This is the next phase of psychological attack to improve profits.

They have squeezed all they could from cheap and effective manufacturing, cutting staff to the bone – this next step brings in the psychologists and data scientists.

This is the result, with more to come.

  15. Yeah, so far this tactic has repeatedly made me buy less from tesco and generally avoid shopping there. I don’t understand how they arrived at it as their optimum marketing strategy.
Admittedly I do now carry a clubcard, but really avoid going there.

  16. 100% discount! Doing regular sales in this way is illegal. They have found a work around in the club card . Won’t be going again any time soon.

  17. Club card price is the actual normal price (not a discount). They are making a pretty ballsy pressure play to get peoples personal information by punishing people who don’;t sign up.

I don’t go to tesco, they are trash.
