Does Russia even want to take the Ukraine? It is a large country that would be harder to occupy than Afghanistan, they’d be a pariah to the international community in a way big enough to affect their economy deeply and put tanks on their borders.
Russia took Crimea because the ethnic Russian population there. If they try taking more it’s all out war and even they aren’t that stupid or suicidal.

Putin seems like a dick to me, not like an idiot. The Crimea thing can be explained by his pipeline, and all the people living there were russian anyways. But the people in the rest of Ukraine hate him, it makes zero sense for him to “invade” Ukraine or anything, “more land” also doesn’t really seem to make sense, it would just destroy diplomatic relations to other countries. It would just be infinitely stupid, why would he do the things everybody seems to think he wants to do
