70 million annually for Horse Racing Ireland.. okay

  1. Stuffed with quangos of rich horse people all sitting on paid boards essentially working on their hobbies while getting subsidised by Paddy the plumber and Pavel and plasterer.

  2. The 1.8 billion isn’t tax income – it’s estimated total “direct and indirect expenditure” – i.e. just total money changing hands. It’s a figure that might be used to exaggerate the economic value of something.

What’s even more rediculous is that c. €20 million of the funding goes to prop up greyhound racing which has massive animal welfare issues and seems to generate very little economic value (if any).

  3. I love working to pay from something that I absolutely hate!
Don’t we all love paying for wealthy bastards to have a hobby?

  4. In New Zealand the horse racing industry funds one of the minor political parties and they advance their interests. I wonder who they are giving donations to here?
