  1. Two classics and the van.

The van was decent. I’m old enough to have seen it in the cinema, just not as good as the others.

  2. The Snapper & The Commitments are classics. The Van is an alright watch, just doesn’t compare to the other two. Colm Meaney is great in all three, but is absolutely brilliant in The Snapper

  3. Commitments > The Snapper > The Van.

Have (or least had) the “barrystown” dvd box set. Must have a root and see if it’s still in tne house.

  4. The picture for the Snapper there makes it look like a shite romantic comedy from the 90s possibly starring Meg Ryan.

  5. All classics. Looking back at the premise of “the snapper”, it was seen as gas back in the day but the background is pretty horrifying now: “teenager gets pregnant due to sexual assault while blackout drunk by much older man”.

  6. The Commitments is the best Irish film ever, period. Anyone who disagrees with me knows nothing about good Irish films!!!!

  7. The Commitments is an Absolutely iconic Irish movie! Watched it a few weeks back for probably the 20th time, absolutely love it and as a Dubliner who is born and bred in the city and born in 72 this is my history

  8. I absolutely loved The Commitments, I’m Italian and it was fascinating to see how much Dublin has changed over the years!

  9. The Snapper was always my favourite. Great tunes in the Commitments, but The Snapper was fucking hilarious. The Van is also a movie I suppose.

  10. The snapper is one of the best Irish comedy slice-of-life as it was films ever. Colm Meaney is deadly in it, his best performance imo. The man was made for the role. Still laugh me hole off every time I see it. I enjoy the other two as well, prefer the van over the commitments because of Meaney

  11. Only seen the Commitments but read all three books. Still play the Commitments soundtrack regularly. It’s a classic.

  12. All fantastic, first time we watched the Snapper together, mam and I realised I was born the same day as Georgina and I’ve drank in every pub (that’s still standing) that the Snapper was shot in.

  13. Some of the best literature and film to come out of this country. Excellent depiction of Dublin in that era. Hilariously funny. Amazing characters. And still as brilliant today as when they were first released. Love, love, love.
