Sinn Féin won’t solve the housing crisis, say voters

  1. This is a stupid point given that we live in a multiparty democracy. SF maintain around 35% as a plurality share, not a majority, nor does any party have a majority share of the vote – it’s very improbable that any one party will have ‘the support of the voters’ with a majority of the electorate, especially not on contentious policy issues.

A SF-led Govt is at a higher preference than the current coalition of three separate political parties re the Ireland Thinks poll.

The spin here is rather interesting.

  2. Wait, so you’re telling me that Sinn Fein won’t be able to overcome the literal physical limitations hamstringing housebuilding? I am shocked.

They won’t deliver on their key populist policy, and they’re probably going to fumble the ball on corner stone economic policies (which they’ve been openly and repeatedly posturing to do for years). Sounds brilliant.

  3. I mean, I’m a SF voter and I don’t believe they can solve it within their cycle. I think they can hopefully stop the direction the current lot are forcing us down though, but the damage done will take a decade to correct.

The main people who try and paint the idea that “SF will solve the issue overnight!” Are the Ff and Fg voters trying to create some sad attempt at a gotcha. The reality is, FF and Fg are continuing to make the matter worse and worse with each passing day. And it’s an ideology from them to keep doing so.

Rather than moan that people are looking for an alternative party, maybe show some self awareness and stop doubling down on the policies that are driving people away? FF and Fg could have cut the legs out from under SF years ago, by actually changing course on their housing ideologies. Instead, they seemingly keep trying to make it worse on purpose.

  4. Sinn Fein will make housing and the economy worse in all likelihood. They are oblivious to the law of unintended consequences and with little understanding of basic economics.

  5. The media seems to think voters are voting for SF because they deserve to win. No it’s because FFG deserve to lose

  6. They definitely won’t but they’ll at least start to make steps in the right direction. FFGG will only to continue to worsen it.

  7. Give SF a go and let’s see, it’s as simple as that. Fuck FF&FG they have shown their true colours. We need a change and the only way to see that is giving SF a chance.

  8. let’s not pretend housing is the only issue in this country. Everything is fucked – public transportation, law enforcement, healthcare etc. FFG have no business running a country

  9. I don’t think any government can truly solve meaningful issues when none of them are aligned, there’s no long term strategy and election cycles are so short.

  10. That’s not why people vote for sinn fein most don’t think they will solve but unless the current govt has proper opposition no one will try to solve the issue…..the status quo is not working….. The change in govt is the only way to shake it up

  11. Anyone who thinks SF will sort the housing crisis need their head examined.

With that said I’m voting for them in the next election. FF/FG need to be gone and urgently

Nothing would make me happier as an Irishman to be utterly wrong on this.

  12. Sino Féin should be applauded for their commitment to Northern Ireland. Other than that, they couldn’t manage a nun shoot in a nunnery. They’d make a shambles of the economy. Current government leaves much to be desired but electing SF would be the nuclear option imho

  13. Of course they won’t. The housing crisis came about after years upon years of government fuck ups and inaction. You can’t undo that level of a fuck up overnight no matter how competent, talented or gifted they might be.

Anyone who thinks that the unmitigated disaster that is the housing crisis will be even close to fixed within the next ten years is dreaming the wildest kind of dreams.

  14. Ah yes, let’s leave it up to Fianna “The x Crisis can’t be solved overnight” Fáil or Fíne “Sure can’t they just get a loan off of their parents” Gael. Worked like a charm for the past fucking 20 years.

  15. The problem i have with this is that Sinn Fein will get in, at some point if not next election and they will not be given the time (by voters) and the chance (the opposition) to make the changes necessary and it will be used as a rod to beat them with.

They will be blocked from every avenue and it will be held over them for any future elections.

Instead of facilitating actual change the opposition parties will do everything in their power to remove them which is the peak of working against the best interests of the country.

    I hope I’m wrong.
