>Since Truss left office last Tuesday, there have been rumours about the names on a potential Truss list, and suggestions that she may want to elevate her close friend and chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, who she sacked over the mini-budget fiasco, to the House of Lords.
Even though this twatwaffle has cemented her legacy as a formidable blockhead, the thought of elevating Kwasi to the House of Lords, makes my stomach churn.
This just about sums up the British political system.
Putting aside the question of whether the honours system is silly in the first place, the real reason she shouldn’t be having an honours system is because pretty much no one associated with Truss has achieved anything good, or done anything honourable at all in her pitiful month and a bit in office.
But the only way that she can be persuaded that it’s not a good idea is because it might cause a bit of embarrassment, and the person who might be embarrassed is the king.
> “The former Prime Minister was said to want to elevate every single one of her friends to the House of Lords, but the list is believed to be half a Post-It note with a strangely awful misspelling of Kwasi on it.”
If she put 50 current tory mps in the house of Lords that could cause enough by elections to bring down the government. Could our ridiculous Constitution stop her.
Don’t embarrass the King?
Why not? She’s embarrassed the rest of the country!
Let the in-bred, jug-eared, unelected, unaccountable clown share our our collective pain at having a model of democracy so flawed that we ended up with such a totally unsuitable imbecile as PM.
She shouldn’t be making one. There ought to be a minimum time served before this is even allowed. Before Truss we didn’t know that would ever be necessary. 🙄
You tried your best, you failed miserably. Go home, theres nothing to celebrate, nothing to reward.
How about just forgo an honours list. With the shit show that was her 7 week government, who the hell thinks anyone involved deserves an honour 🤣
She’s no more embarrassing than Boris was, leave her alone, she’s just a dork.
The embarrassment was caused by the political system, not her.
She should also forgo the “ex-prime minister pension” £115,000 yearly payment.
She should not have a list at all. She did nothing positive, destroying both the economy and our reputation on the international stage. Frankly, she should just be forgotten about.
Don’t embarrass yourself you obtuse moron more like.
“Don’t embarrass the king, Liz”.
Oops, too late…. oh dear, oh dear….
> Ultimately they are in the gift or the monarch
No, the monarch acts as advised by the current PM, except for some honours like the Order of the Garter which are personal.
Ian Hislop said it best on HIGNFY – Boris Johnson is giving honours to his mates, Liz Truss doesn’t have any.
I don’t think she should be allowed to write one or award a single gong or title.
