‘We took the sitcom and blew it apart’: how The Young Ones changed comedy for ever

  1. Well they didn’t really. I don’t think anyone has tried to replicate it because it was simply shite.

Think of the popular U.K. comedies that came after them, Vicar of Dibley, My Family, Only Fools and Horses (ok that started about the same time), The Inbetweeners, One foot in the grave, Keeping up appearances, Men behaving badly, The Royal Family etc etc. Hardy influenced by The Young Ones!

  2. Another of those guardian articles for a certain demographic about how important *their* culture was, how punk changed everything. Show was hilarious at the time, possibly because I am also that age group, but it really hasn’t aged well and it changed fuck all.
