I have a very limited experience with radiators. I just moved into a new apartment alone and turned on the radiator for the first time. It started making a lot of noise like its filling up with water. Is it supposed to do that?
I read about bleeding the air out but I literally cannot find a valve. I looked at every inch of that radiator but there’s nothing. Its one of those radiators with bulky columns.

Is it getting warm? If so, it is probably not air. However it should not sound loud so that you cannot sleep anymore imo. If the radiator has no valve (which might be a thing with older radiators), it will be hard to solve the issue quickly.
Maybe a picture might help others.
Even older radiators usually have a valve. Maybe google Heizkörperschlüssel and see if that might fit anywhere at your radiator.
Also it could be helpful to ask a neighbor. It is likely that they have the same radiators and can help you. Or even your landlord. Or the Hausmeister if there is one for your house.
Anyway there shouldn’t be air circulating. It’s not only annoying it also lowers the efficiency so that you don’t get the full amount of heat.
If you can’t find a valve, it might be here;

Press the pin. hold a towel under the valve to catch any water. If a lot of air comes out, notify your landlord/Hausmeister because they may have to add water to the System
If this does not work, Google “Heizung Entlüftung” and search for something that looks like what you have

And my money is exactly that.

Is it a really old building with old radiators? Then [read that](https://www.heizsparer.de/spartipps/heizung-optimieren/heizung-entlueften-ohne-entlueftungsventil) (use Google Translate etc. if necessary).
But before you do that yourself, definitely talk to some other people (neighbours, Hausmeister).
