  1. The institutions of the state seem to have no idea how close they are to falling apart.

It’s a good thing Russia didn’t succeed in this war because I really doubt western society could muster the resolve to fight for the continuation of such corrupt, broken systems

  2. That is hilarious! I mean, just complete the marathon at your own pace if you have to. What is the point in striving to get some prize which is based upon a falsehood?

  3. ‘allegations that the off-duty member completed a portion of the race by taking the Luas.’

Would there be many of them taking part while on duty??

  4. A firefighter ran the whole thing in his turnout gear, then ran the NYC marathon a week later. I’m struggling to think of a better example of the difference between them and the guards than that.

  5. The article states that Garda HQ are carrying out a ‘fact finding investigation’ into the incident….wtf…

Person cheats in sporting activity in their free time which affects absolutely nobody….the Gardai launch an investigation…what are they going to charge him with?? Will they fire him because he didn’t complete a marathon??
Even at this stage the fact that they have publically declared they are investigating this should get the guy down to the WRC, his employer is taking an over-the-top interest in his private life and using Garda resources to investigate things that have absolutely nothing to fucking do with them.

Obviously cheating in a marathon is fairly uncool and you look like a dick but when they don’t even have resources to police our towns and cities the fact that somebody is deployed to investigate this is insane.

  6. Just goes to show the gardai are a bunch of chancers and cheats. They go hand in hand with organized crime too.

  7. >Garda Headquarters is carrying out a “fact-finding review” into allegations that the off-duty member completed a portion of the race by taking the Luas.

Why? Nothing illegal about it I’m guessing? Or just so they can officially pull the piss out of him.

  8. What a bullshit story. Who cares what he did. We have too many people calling themselves journalists

  9. With all the fake news on Twitter at the moment, I was fully convinced this was a pisstake

  10. The amount of negative stories regarding serving members of the Gardaí is truly shocking, the standards are very low considering these people are there to serve and protect the country, how do they expect ordinary people to have respect for the force.

  11. Wouldn’t that be a breach of integrity? And could he be trusted further in the force? Are the Garda not held to a higher standard being law enforcement? Such as the code of ethics?

  12. Why this:?

    >Garda Headquarters is carrying out a “fact-finding review” into allegations that the off-duty member completed a portion of the race by taking the Luas.

What a waste of garda investigation time.
Is as if some superintendent sees one of these medals and thought “my precious”
