What is the English name of this bird. It’s “Skjære” on Norwegian but what is it in English. Help!

  1. My favourite way to find names for animals in other languages is to go to the Wikipedia article and then look at the article in the language I’m looking for 🙂

  2. It is a magpie, or more specifically an Eurasian magpie / common magpie. In Australia, they have the Australian magpie (plystreskjære), often also just referred to as magpie, but it is a completely different bird, so depending on who you converse with in the world, just magpie could cause some confusion. But here in the North, just magpie should do just fine!

  3. Tip: in the norwegian wiki page you’ll find the scientific name pica pica, and if you google that you’ll find the english wiki page with the english name, Eurasian Magpie

  4. In the future, try looking up the bird on wikipedia. If there’s no link to an english article, you’ll still have the latin name, which you can google to get an english result.
