Hello. I’m living in RVK and it looks like it’s gonna stay like that for at least few more months, so I have to find me a way to get around, before i import my Jeep if i decide to stay here. So ,for the time being i need some budget e-scooter (possibly used) to get around. I know the site [mii.is](https://mii.is) ,which has decent new offers ,but this site isn’t specialized in e-scooters it seems. Is there any online or “real” shop that would sell them? What about used private listings? I’ve searched the [bland.is](https://bland.is) ,but didn’t really found much.

Where would i search for mopeds or used vehicles? Lastly can someone clarify if motor mopeds and scooters even have to be registered in Iceland? Bcs i see ppl driving them on the side walks or roads wo plates all the time, sometimes even past Police and they don’t seem to do anything about it. I’ve heard that they should be, but they don’t really enforce it. Is that true?

Tnx for your help.

  1. So the moped and scooters on sidewalks thing is that if your vehicle has a speed cap of 25 kph then it doesn’t need to be registered and it can ride on sidewalks (Source in Icelandic: [Samgöngustofa](https://www.samgongustofa.is/umferd/fraedsla-og-oryggi/fraedsla/velknuin-hjol/lett-bifhjol-i-flokki-i/) )

As for selecting your scooter, I advice that you make a short list of requirements, how much weight is it going to be lugging around? how steep are the hills you have to climb? ride comfort? etc..

The easiest way to answer these is to try them out in person and I suggest you give the folks over at [rafhjolasetrið](https://rafhjolasetur.is/), [everest](https://www.everest.is/is/vefverslun/hjol/rafmagnshlaupahjol), [orflaedi](https://www.orflaedi.is/), [nova](https://www.nova.is/barinn/dotabud?type=Rafsk%C3%BAta) or [elko](https://elko.is/ahugamal/farartaeki/hlaupahjol) a visit and ask if you can try some of them out. I’d look out for ride comfort/vibration/shock absorbers, how standing on it feels, resale value, ergonomics, brakes and acceleration up a slope(if it can’t accelerate up a nearby slope then it’s going to struggle with a bigger one later).

Armed with that info you can then make an informed decision and either try your luck with bland.is or just straight up buy one.

  2. There are a bunch of rentable scooters for a short time. Hopp, Zolo, Wind, etc.

I think there’s only one place where you can rent a scooter for a long time (and for personal uses). [https://escooter.is/leiga/](https://escooter.is/leiga/)

I’ve heard the model they rent you is not very powerful, so keep that in mind. They take care of all maintenance for 7990ISK/month (with the stipulation that you must rent for at least 2 months).

  3. Just mind the snow and ice as winter closes in. Strætó ( straeto.is) bus system might be a more permanent solution depending on how long you will stay.
