And so it begins……..EU will probably want the same from us…tit for tat…. will our government ever stop shooting it’s self in the foot?
The UK always did this with people who required visas. Headpieces to me when I moved here 5 years ago
A lot of countries do this, Turkey, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, USA
How do this work as someone living in NI who only holds an Irish EU passport? Do I have to scan my face when I wake up?
Lots of countries do this. Every time I go to Japan for example. So what? Play by the host’s rules or don’t go.

Easy to get uppity about this, but yeah plenty of countries do this already.
Is this not going to be required for UK citizens visiting EU when EES/ETIAS begins in 2023 as well?
Looking forwards to queues in Dover when the EU implements their new checks…
We can hope with this happening the E-Gates will become British / Irish passport holders only.
A lot of the world does this. Another way for big brother to always watch you
The passports already have this information encoded, every e-gate already reads it and checks it
The UK already does it for anyone who needs a visa. The country has a database of everyone who’s every come in from Asia and Africa. Pearl clutching because suddenly it affects Europeans now.
The UK has been doing this for all visa holders for quite a long time. The only thing new here is EU Nationals needing a visa
Tbf the UK has required this of every non EU country for ages so fair dice.
Been to Malaysia recently. Same thing. Not that big of a problem
If the EU wants to do that to UK citizens, then it is fair to return the favour.
I can’t believe this Reddit thread with most people bending the knee to this Orwellian stuff.
Facial biometrics? What happens if you travel to another country for plastic surgery?
Loads of countries do this.
But I am still pretty annoyed that thanks to Brexit we now have to go in a separate (often longer/slower queue) at passport control when entering EU countries, get our passport stamped, sometimes get questioned, and have a limited time to visit.
While EU citizens still appear to go through E-Gates at passport control in the UK – seemingly don’t need any stamps to enter or exit. And they don’t check or stamp passports on leaving the UK (at least at airports there is no passport control to leave – maybe they check it at the channel tunnel?). So seemingly they could stay as long as they want with no issues (at least from what I’ve seen).
Brexit was literally just stripping and restricting rights for us – no change for anyone else….
Don’t think they have the Manpower. Rocky start. But necessary
EU charging 7 Euro for entrance
I hope all EU countries will demand same from Brits holidaying there haha
It’s not the ‘UK’, it’s a small number of corrupt, wealthy politicians who have their own agenda for pushing this through.
