The easiest, cheapest fastest way to boost renewable energy contributions to the grid. Makes perfect sense.
Why not just build shit loads of windfarms on coastal areas that nobody lives near/cares about.
So many ugly rocky areas without beaches that are prime candidates
I used to dislike them. I thought they wrecked our beautiful landscapes. But I began to appreciate that they are helping to save our beautiful planet. I now smile when I pass one.
Up until some old dear is pervaded onto TV complaining that the view from their kitchen windows been ruined.
The scale that would be needed for onshore wind to have a noticeable benefit is huge. The amount of land needed would ruin large areas of green space. Can’t have it all unfortunately.
The UK literally has the largest offshore wind farm. We aren’t not doing anything.
Edit- Not surprised downvoted in this sub. At least refute rather than downvote.
I thought we were done with relying on fossil fuels? Which is exactly what this sort of green daydreaming causes.
It’s extremely doable to have the whole of the UK powered by windfarms and other renewable (with maybe the odd fossil fuel or nuclear plant to cover peak demand)
Apparently it would only cost about £50b. No idea if that’s total investment or what the government would have to spend though.
Considering HS2 is projected now at £42.5b I think most people would probably agree we’d rather be fully renewable with independent energy over having a new trainline. (Although 50b for windfarms is also likely a great under evaluation as most projects are)
It will cost money now as we have to build infrastructure but it will protect ourselves in the long run. Especially if we could then have them nationalised so the price won’t skyrocket when affected by global energy issues.
Whilst wind power is not enough on its own, there’s literally no valid reason to object to it other than being a complete NIMBY pillock. And they’re a damn sight prettier than cooling towers. Ironically some of the people who whine about these romanticise the old Victorian windmills as well…
More nuclear power please.
Windfarms look nice in small numbers, but they aren’t going to keep the lights on.
What happened to ocean wave generators could have a ton of them and less of a eyesore

Add mandatory solar and battery storage for any new build building not just homes as part of planning
1000 wind turbines is as much output as one nuclear power station
Why on earth is it banned?
So long as they do not kick the ass out of it and pop them up everywhere.
Although I think they need to invest in energy storage
Good. The ban is frankly ridiculous and helps literally nobody.
Just get the fucking farms up. If it’s such an eyesore, you can tear them down in a few years when we have capacity enough to take notice of these sorts of vanity demands.
Grants for homeowners for micro generation would be good
Huh a Starmer first, he’s finally found something to differentiate himself from the Tories on.
Well done, Kier. Have a fucking biscuit.
Calm down keir you absolute mad lad, leave some co2 left for the plants will you.
Shame he believes in carbon capture, otherwise I’d be able to take him seriously. Really spoils his attempts at green or progressive credentials.
Also, his newly found “they took our jerbs” stint is pretty terrible.
If anything they ought to extend the Tory ban nationwide
Ditch the entire Town and County Planning Cat if you’re serious about becoming the party of Growth

[I like this Idea a fair bit](https://www.gov.scot/publications/draft-hydrogen-action-plan/)
