**EDIT-01:**
\- In our example here, the person A was scolded by a senior colleague and not by the boss

**BEGINNING OF THE ORIGINAL POST:**

So as an example: stand-ups. Let’s say that person A (not a german) made some mistake somewhere. Is it considered “normal” that then this person gets scolded by the german colleague in front of everyone? Like this person A is used as “an example” along the lines “You see guys? Person A is stupid by doing mistake XYZ. DO NOT DO THAT”.

Some times I would say that the scolds are harsh. I can feel from miles away that the person is very embarassed. And to be honest, the mistake is not that bad or severe to earn a scold.

I always thought the lines “Applaud Employees Publicly but Never-Ever Scold Them in Public” makes sense. See this article:

So I ask here if this is a cultural thing in Germany. Does anyone have experience / accounts on that?

Been working here a year now. Ive made plenty of mistakes, never was i scolded infront of colleages. Thats kinda ridiculous if you ask me.
No, it is not. Bullying and getting insulted is forbidden and illegal in germany and you can press charges against your boss if he does that. Getting scolded a few times in front of your coworkers probably wont be enough for that, but that is not normal or “cultural” behaviour in germany.
I’d say you should change your employer.
That’s bullying, plain and simple. Germans are not like that normally, at least none of the ones I have ever worked for.
