DCC making the most of their budget

  1. You know people are still going to end up going around it the wrong way.

I was nearly taken out of it on a little round about like this last week.

  2. 1. Where is that? and 2. That is the most pointless waste of money and that just makes it even more hilarious

  3. I can nearly guarantee that roundabout had to go through 70 reems of red tape just to start construction. Then there was probably 65 emails sent about it being opened. The process probably took about 4 years.

Then a load of seniors in the college and the student union got involved to say how amazing it is to share the news that the roundabout is open and how this will change not only the future of the University but also shape future plans …. FOR YEARS TO COME !!

There’s probably ongoing discussion about what to call said roundabout, which will involve at least 5 more meetings

  4. The reasoning is people kept blowing through the roundabout.

The method is questionable. A raised kerb would be a better option but would also be constantly ran over by lorries. A better option would be make it one way with a dual cycle lane… If only.

  5. They wouldn’t have to do this if motorists weren’t taking chances. The amount of people who think those little roundabouts are optional are frightening.

  6. Absolutely essential. People are as thick as shite. I fully guarantee that if all those bollards weren’t there, someone would try and squeeze their car through at some stage.

  7. Pretty sure this is still the temporary solution after Mannix Flynn successfully stopped the cycle track. They’d need part 8 planning to make the permanent change so this is what has been left for now.

With the road closed for one direction of traffic for up to a year… I’d imagine it will be at least 2024 before we see an improvement

  8. This is strand road in sandymount, where the high court have blocked the proposed plans to put into a 2 lane cycle path and turn it into a one way out bound road. They would have removed these islands all together.

Dublin City Council essentially came up with the plan themselves and tried to begin construction, only for the high Court to rule it a major construction project, not simply changing a few road signs etc.

Honestly the fact DCC have that power, and can implement it without the public being aware of A. Who and what went into making these highly experimental plans and B. Just altering the entire city landscape without review, to the point they’ve finally, legally, stepped outside their remit is crazy.

  9. They’re just plastic cones. One lad with some paint and a rivet gun can do this in 30 minutes. Very cheap.

As for the need to do it at all – drivers just ignore those roundabouts often. Could’ve been speeding complaints from locals.

Looks ugly as fuck, but does the job as quick fix.

  10. That’s a frightening monstrosity. You’d swear DCC have shares in public signage the way they over clutter the simplest tasks.

  11. Plus can I just add, wtf is going on with double signage on the inside and outside. Like why two? Does DCC think that the inner ones are more visible or something? Logic

  12. I cycle around this roundabout a lot and very much welcome this change. Cars drive over the roundabout to overtake cyclists and it makes exiting the roundabout really dangerous, as the cars aggressively push past the bikes before that island shown on the middle-left of the photo and cyclists get pushed towards the curb. I *hated* this roundabout because of this.

  13. Some people can be selfish……..at the bottom of Grafton Street, a van was parked obstructing the Luas. Now, the space has so many wands that look ugly but needs must!

  14. And they still can’t see the forests for the trees, People keep blowing through these because all the bollards etc block your view of oncoming vehicle indicators. I drive this route every work day and always slow to a crawl because I can’t see if they are indicating or not.
