Finland Going Legal Cannabis? The Green Party Calls for Marijuana Legalization in Finland

  1. Well, that’s one premature take when Green party isn’t really planning on actually doing anything. And no one else has commented much

  2. What the hell is this article?

    > But another country is beginning to advance its cannabis industry, and we will discuss it in detail. You will be impressed by what you are about to discover with Finland’s marijuana cannabis industry.

No, it’s not beginning to advance anything.

    > Finland is not always on anybody’s list when it is time to discuss the epicenter of marijuana reform. Still, the Scandinavian country is now taking a massive leap into its marijuana future.

No, it’s not taking a leap.

    > But beyond this, cannabis reforms have moved glacially at a pace that is quite shocking to other European countries.

    No, it’s not shocking.

Hell, Finland is not even scandinavian!

  3. Let’s return to the subject in 2040, when the Boomers are no longer active in politics. The current state of affairs: cannabis is legal for medicinal use, but some bureaucrat is sending letters to doctors prescribing it, threatening them with the loss of their license.

Also everyone seems to be really concerned about terminal patients getting hooked on cannabis.

Good luck getting cannabis legalized before that mentality has died.

  4. I wish. The supporters of prohabition are having a field day spreading fear and false narratives. Few classics:

    – we don’t need new substances / oh like there is no drugs now

    – usage will explode if it’s easy to aguaire / yeah the dealer always asks for id and age.

    – next they will be demanding heroin to the food stores / oof. These are probably the same ppl who were sure that after same sex marrige was legalized we’d demand to be wed to animals.

    – “WON’T WORK IN FINLAND” / the classic frase when presented how substance abuse related problems (crime, decieses, overdoeses etc.) have been lowered in countries with humane substance policies.

    – “even the first cannabis injection can kill you” / this is a meme at this point, originated from 80s/90s (if I remember right) drug propaganda. This has not been seen as a argument against since then, but kind of simillar was said by a member of the police (idr name) as an argument AGAINST legalization. He told how people can be knived to the lung for 20 euro weed dept. I find this mind boggelingly absurd as one great argument against illegal drug trade is that user don’t have to deal with ppl who knive them bc 20e🤦‍♂️

But he’s a member of our, non political I’d like to add, police and our msm gives these kind of people the time and space.

So tl;dr im not holding my breath for legalization, I hope like hell that reason prevails ignorance and fear but I have also seen first hand during 20+ years how any discussion on the subject is being marginalized and fought with religious malice. Fuck I made myself angry again, might go to sauna.

  5. The general “mental landscape” in Finland is such that it won’t happen any time soon. The Greens as well as the youth wings of some other parties support legalization, but you won’t see a governing coalition support it soon.

Finland will of course legalize it eventually, but I predict will be among the latter half of “western” European countries to do so.

Finland is liberal and progressive in many respects, but has a huge psychological baggage and a nanny state complex with intoxicating substances.

  6. You should never write an article where the title is a question, if the answer to it is beyond any doubt an obvious NO.

  7. Green party is like true finns. They do talk the talk but never walk the walk.
So no I don’t have my hopes up.

  8. I really hope that happens!!! I don’t really smoke, maybe once in two years, but still!! Tourism income would grow, and if people would change from alcohol to weed, health costs would drop! It’s the least toxic drug. Alcohol is as addicyive then heroin and destroys brain, liver and other organs. Yes to cannabis!!!!!!!

  9. I kind of feel they shot themselves in the foot when they said all drugs should be decriminalized. Whilst I completely agree, I think any meaningful change to archaic anti-drug laws, would most likely occur incrementally.

I’d be happy if they started by legalizing being able to grow 5 plants, (as is the law in Holland).

Clear arguments need to be laid out that illustrate smoking weed doesn’t lead to heroin addiction, that it’s safer than booze etc. A lot of people in Finland have the impression that pot heads will be injecting smack in a H&M changing room.

I don’t think the Greens will get anywhere with this, but I’m glad the conversation is out there. It just needs to be argued properly.
