Having worked in a Bau und Hobby I can tell you that the Christmas shit arrives early to middle september and then clogs up the warehouse.
No wonder a lot of people working in retail start to dislike Christmas, when you are around that stuff for 2.5 months, have to work sundays and customers being at their worst. Oh and also get sonicated with the same 10 Christmas songs for a month
They gave up on Halloween. Which is not a bad thing. In Switzerland, we have traditionally the start of Carnival at 11th of October, with high season from February till March.
So, Halloween is not very interesting for sellers and the public because it’s only 1 night. Carnival goes way longer and is just way more fun.
Spooktober is right around the corner !
Same in Rewe Germany since two weeks ago, except they have Stollen instead of the much much tastier Panettone.
And there’s a very tiny Halloween section with a couple of decorations but that’s it.
They tried to make it a thing back in the late 90’s early 00’s, but it didn’t catch really. So yeah, we don’t have Halloween nor a holliday like Thanksgiving, so it’s all aboard the Christmas train.
I always believed it’s “Yoghurt” with “Y” and not “J”…!
Do you guys celebrate Halloween anyways on the 31st and dress up, give out candy?
I was in Thailand some years ago and on October 31 it seemed like every where I went, people were dressed up. Granted I was in Pattaya and it has a big foreign national population, but many locals were participating too.
Halloween-lite is not a bad thing. Look at countries which embrace Halloween. They have more childhood obesity, crime, and additional garbage from cheap costumes and millions of candy wrappers. No thanks!
Each year they put that shit earlier and earlier…
I saw Fasnachtschüechli and Panettone 2 month ago in coop. At this point I just think they either are selling old stock or never really interrupt production.
Migros, COOP, Manor and Globus do have Halloween themes each year, here in Geneva at least, which is understandable given the large American and other expat communities.
IT’S NOT EVEN APPROACHING NOVEMBER YET DIR HUERE LUMPE!!!
Seriously though. How many people would join an initiative to ban christmas themed articles in shops until 1. November? (Exemptions for specialty stores granted.)
Last week they were already playing last christmas on the radio…
As long as they don’t start blaring “Last Christmas” I’m fine.
And thats a good thing.
Honest question: Has anyone in Switzerland ever celebrated Halloween like we typically see from american tv shows? With trick or treat, costumes and spooky decoration?
I live in the Bern region and I can’t remember ever seeing people having a halloween party. However, I also was kind of introverted.
But what we do have is some kind of carnival season. Basically, there are dozens of festivals during fall where we wear costzmes, stagger through the streets and bars and drink until we don’t remember how we got to the point where we wake up the next morning.
Whats a jogurt?
German side of Switzerland 🤢
Hab auch schon meinen ersten Weihnachtsstollen mit Marzipan verputzt. War lecker.
Was at Lidl yesterday and thought the same. Does anyone buy christmas stuff this early anyway?
Erm, you’re in Switzerland, not in the states.
Surprise, we neither have thanksgiving 😉
*all i wish for christmas echoes in the distance*
Well, christmas stuff before october is more than enought Halloween like…
Christmas is the worst, i truly hate it.
This is my first autumn in Switzerland. I miss Spooky Season 🙁
