why a fluovestje is important! (inspired by the LED discussion)

  1. Average cyclist: “No thanks. Instead I’m going to be as invisible as humanly possible by wearing dark clothing, having no lights on my bicycle and riding on the wrong side of the road. Bonuspoints for being on my phone and having my headphones so loud I don’t hear anything of what’s going on around me.”

  2. anyone want to guess what the average distance is a car travels before you can react at 50 and 70 let anone 90 and 120. the answer is too far … btw thats why pedestrians should walk on the opposite side of the road so they can react themselves.

  3. I don’t wear a fluo vest, but my bicycle bag is fluo with reflectors, my backpack has reflectors, i always use my lights and tend to wear pale colors.

  4. They just photoshopped out the fluo vest to complete black. Not really convincing. I wear bright clothes, how does that compare?

  5. It’s pretty cool to see reflective material integrated in modern winter fashion. It’s far from enough as of yet but I have hope because it’s not only safer, it also looks dope. 😎

  6. Last year I avoided running over a cyclist because at least my car detected an obstacle. I was so angry. It is a pitch black road, no bicycle lane and this guy didn’t have decent lights, reflectors or a fluevestje. DO YOU WANT TO DIE??

  7. People are pretty blind if they can’t see this is a pedestrian instead of a cyclist. Cyclists imo don’t need to be dressed as a traffic worker because a smart cyclist has working bike lights and reflectors and that’s enough to be visible. Just like black cars with working car lights are enough too.

  8. Yeh, got a letter from school advising to dress the kids as fluo as possible. With the intent of just using it daily when you take em to school.

  9. Not downplaying this but it’s being exaggerated by three things here:

    * The human eye arguably has a better dynamic range than any camera
    * They look like pretty old and shitty headlights and most people would put on their highbeams on a road like that
    * It’s a pretty bad image, resolution and compression

  10. Most important is lights

There was a kid with a fluovestje in front of a car and I couldn’t see the kid because the beams of the driver where blinding me. Only about 2M away from the kid could i see him.
