My family (I don’t own/have it personally) has a painting by George Collie. I have plenty of cousins and extended family in Ireland but it ended up with my grandma and immediate family in California because my grandma is in the painting. The general consensus is to donate it but no one no where to start or if a George Collie painting would even be wanted.

I know someone will ask to see it so here: https://imgur.com/a/1BrvEpr

  1. The university of limerick hosts Irelands national portrait collection, that could be a Good start.

I think Crawford college in Cork has and keeps a permanent collection. They could be an option.

  2. I would reach out to either the National Gallery or the Hugh Lane Gallery. The National Gallery have his most famous piece “The Midday Meal” The rest of his stuff never garnered as much attention but would still be known. I’ve just googled him and a few auctions are still live. Some smaller stuff is around €500, other larger stuff is around €10,000.

Do you know the location in the painting? There’s still a fair few Georgian houses in Ireland that look like this but the fireplace in particular is extremely familiar to me.
