The article lays out the various issues with UK adoption, but bloody hell, that headline – “adoption industry”. Yikes.
Adoption in this country is a joke.
Friends of ours tried to adopt a child (age 4). The adoption agency said that they need to be a job 12 months (fair enough). Have 1 years salary saved up for 1 person (so that doesn’t matter if you are on £10k or £40K) and had to be that because they expect one of you to be off for a year to help the child settle in.
To end they didn’t adopt because there were zero chance they could save up a full years salary. That alone is a joke because how many people actually have that set to one side? How many people have kids and are broke? It’s not like they struggle with money and have plenty set a side but to get a years salary it would take 2 years with no other unexpected bills.
So the agencies don’t make it easy at all and try to find something, then moan that no one is adopting. Our friends would make great parents and the child would have everything and more. Agency is just screwing kids over and making it near impossible unless you are super rich.
The worst part of the article is the fact that it is described as an industry. This suggests a business, which reduces the status of adoption
