I assume this thing is a zoning marker for construction work. Am I correct?

  1. We call it “Visier”, roughly tranalates to “sight” in terms of aiming. Their purpose is to indicate a planned construction and their outlines. They are legally required to put up these so people affected and others interested can have a better idea how it could be when it’s done. It’s also the timeframe to file a complaint”Einsprache” against it if you do not agree with their plans.

Oftentimes you can request to take a look at the project. Doing that you get info about the planned timeframe, expected inconveniences due to constructionwork and contractors in general, as well as who is the owner “Bauherr” of the project.

  2. You could always go to your neighbour and ask them about it and try to find a compromise, if it bothers you. You might come up with a solution for it that is acceptable for both parties and you might even find some new friends in that process. Otherwise, if not, you can still contact a lawyer and go to trial. They most likely are not going to like you anymore. Obviously, this can happen as well if you approach them to find a compromise that suits both of you. But at least you tried it and it doesn’t cost you anything.

  3. Yeah, and they want to build another shoebox. And it will certainly drag down the value of your house (because buildings with no roof look kinda stupid in residential areas).

If the zoning marker has a third wing pointing upwards in an angle, you can be sure your government did a good job in enforcing zoning and aesthetic laws to ensure that every new building adds value to all who existed previously. And not dragging them down into an uninhabitable ghetto.

  4. After a short discussion with Seitzmeir (the company that owns our building) they don’t know about the project, and are not happy about it. They also mentioned that it has not yet been published. The plot thickens.

  5. Call the „Bauverwaltung“ of your municipal and ask. They can tell you what’s going on. I work as a „Bauverwalter“ too in a municipal in Aargau. We‘re happy to help out where we can.

  6. this is a Swiss idiosyncrasy. Any building modification or a new building must be erected using poles with the actual dimensions. Any citizen can object to this
