Nightwork is harmful for health, and deregulating it for e-commerce baffling [opinion, NL]

  1. Been doing nightshifts all my life. 3 ploegensysteem. Nothing wrong with my health. Guess it depends from 1 person to another

  2. I function way better at night to the point my sleeping schedule automatically shifts to being asleep during daytime when I don’t have work or education to keep it in check. Ffs, let me decide for myself.

  3. yeah, I often sleep best on nigh shifts, sometimes even sleep 10-12 hours

I think the distortion of the view on nightshifts comes from people who have nighshifts must also do the normal things AKA “the it’s 10 in the morning and you’re still wearing pijamas?”-people

I work with a guy who brings his kids to school after the nigh shift, you know what he does afterwards? he goes to bed

  4. I don’t know what the opinion is about but most CAO’s actually include a significant bonus for night work because it’s harder. AFAIK it’s +50% in hourly wage.

  5. “but what about our e-commerce?!! Now we can’t compete with bol.com, let us exploit workers so we can compete!”

  6. I loved it as a student (better wages for less work), but I can imagine that doing this for a lifetime can be bad for you.

  7. I loved working night shifts. I have trouble falling asleep but after a night shift I would always sleep like a baby. But switching back to a regular day rhythm after the night shift is what nearly killed me.

  8. I find it fascinating that this glorious digital economy (e-commerce, self-driving cars, AI whatever) which has been advertised to bring less work and better future ultimately depends on repressing workers’ rights, worsening working conditions and paying shitty wages to more and more people.

    Thank-god there’s still a tax break on the second house, I don’t know what I’d do otherwise … /s
