I thought Oilean Toraigh would be there, but it must be too small geographically. Surprising.
There’s a couple there I’ve never even heard of atoll atoll..
Bere island knows no king, but the king in the north who’s name is stark!
Who are the 5 people that live on Dursey Island
where is Great Island and how do 13.5k people live on it?
Looks like Great Blasket Island needs a King.
Vote for me.
I’ll do fuck all but I will stand naked on the cliff side with a spear and shake it angrily any tourist….I will also shake the spear at them.
I’m an Achill denier, if you can reach it by bridge it’s not an island.
List will need updating in 50 years when most of our coastal towns/cities are under melty iceberg/glacier slush (technical term).
Im missing Craggy island on this list
I hate it when the Aran Islands are anglicised
Where’s Craggy Island?
Is it missing the Saltee Islands or do they just have different names I don’t know?
I was gojng to make a joke about us having to talk avoid Great island. Then I seen its population. It must be pretty great.
Is lambay not a decent size? Did you make this OP?
Ah Whiddy Island is weally widdle
Inishboffin is incredible. Thoroughly recommend taking a long weekend trip there during the summer.
Have we any islands with low population numbers that would be suitable as command control/maintenance bases for large scale offshore windfarm development? I ask as some countries have plans for making artificial islands for this purpose, apparently it’s highly advantageous to have land bases close to the far offshore (from the mainland) windfarms for ease of construction & operation.
You can catch crabs on Achill island
Gorumna is like a mini Ireland… without the north unfortunately
It’s pretty pathetic of Achill Island to copy the shape of Offaly, get your own ideas lads
Mm. Forgot the biggest one… Ireland
How have I existed for 33 years and not known there were so many islands here? Has anyone mentioned the absence of the famous Craggy Island?
Wouldn’t Éire be the largest island of Ireland?
Oohhh. Spot which way the glaciers retreated 🙂
Sherkin Island looks like Ireland with a hole in it. When I was a kid some person visited our class from there and gave us all badges with the island on it.
Amazing
There’s one you missed called Britain
One time, my (then very young) cousin who grew up in Westport was telling his classmates that he was going to visit us in Seattle, in the US. “I’m going to Seakkle” he said. “Sure, Ruairi, we all go see Achill all the time, it’s right over there” they said.
Missing loads. Lambay, dalkey Island and Irelands eye for instance.
Lambay is credited as the site of the beginning of the viking conquest in Ireland, and they have wallabies which is gas
Gorumna looks like Ireland without the North
I’m from Cobh and having been on Valentia I’m surprised to learn it’s bigger. It did *not* seem that way at all.
Wonderful! Thanks for this.
Where’s Inisherin
With all these “island” islands w/ bridges etc, what is the most remote island? The furthest irish land from the mainland.
Where are the saltees
Would have been interesting to note on it which have a bridge to them and what County each one is in
These still part of the British isles?
I remember kids from whiddy catching the boat to school
