As Private Eye has been reporting fro years though, Hinkley Point was massively overbudget and seriously delayed. Plants built to similar designs in Finland and France have closed due to safety issues too. We desperately need nuclear power plants but EDF and the Chinese construction group behind these plants are simply unable to meet targets and we might need to consider looking elsewhere to build the nuclear plants we need.

The idea of a massive nuclear reactor in UK being controlled by Chinese operators in Beijing is absurd to me, especially in light of Putin’s forays into failed world domination, but maybe that’s just me.
