I used to think that the reason for the rise of populist movements in Eastern Germany had to do with Comunist nostalgia and the problems associated with the transition to capitalism
but then i found out that Eastern Germany had problems with right wing extremists **even shortly after the** ***Wende, and even*** **in the time of DDR th**ere were hundreds of neo-nazi groups, aylum centers were set on fire, immigrants were harrased etc.
