Protest held over housing of asylum seekers in Dublin

  1. I don’t understand why vacant office buildings haven’t been regularly converted to residential accomodation prior to this for non-refugees. I can absolutely understand why people are angry here.

  2. > As the protest was taking place, four men carrying plastic bags and luggage arrived at the building and went inside, with a small number of the protesters shouting at them.

Fuck them for harassing the people living there.

  3. Yea this is sad but like… i understand the protesters. East Wall has been a kip for years, historically ignored by the government. Then the govt invests loads in putting people from another country there and overpopopulate the place with young men. I don’t expect this to end well 😕

  4. I used to live there for 9 years, glad I just moved from this hole 3months ago! Its absolute madness, people are paying 2500eur for a 2bed in that complex, put that into perspective!

  5. >They said they were angry at the accommodation of *male-only* asylum seekers there and that they had not been consulted.

And sure if it had of been female asylum seekers there wouldn’t have been a peep from them, would have been showing up with sugar and supplies.

Why is it because they’re men they aren’t entitled to be saved from a war torn country? If this was your son would you be happy to see this happening to them?

Edit: [This has just been released in relation to this building, 380 can be houses, 80 single people with families to come](https://janethorner.ie/post/temporary-emergency-accommodation-east-wall-road/)

  6. These people have nothing better to do no?
You think Ukrainians want to be here? They were forced to flew their homes, the last thing they probably want is to be a burden on other countries.

Sick of how hateful this country is becoming.

  7. The hysteria kicking off on twitter over this is something else. It’d be a service to us all if Musk tanks it.

  8. Asylum laws need to be overhauled. From the research I‘ve done it points to 1946 being the year that the seminal laws were passed by the UN (subsequently enacted by member nations) It was a time of massive movement of people across borders. Border newly created that was i.e. a new Poland, Germany, Soviet sphere of influence as well as a burgeoning Indian and Pakistan state. People felt the need to move to the next country, finding that the town they lived in now belonged to a new, unwelcome one. No one who wrote up these laws ever envisaged that a person would willingly travel across 12-20 different countries in order to seek asylum in the optimum country, a desire aided by false information on the internet and people smugglers. The laws, as they are now, need drastic reevaluation.

  9. I find it funny that all of these settlements have started to ramp up all over Europe as the post-COVID wage increases happen and people are refusing to take shit paid jobs that laid them off.

I’m sure it’s all co-incidence, governments would help out rich businesses like that would they at the expense of taxpayers?

  10. From my experience working with the Ukrainian refugee community in Ireland they are very concerned and worried about the influx of Russians men coming into Ireland, and there is a visible increase in the amount of them in our cities. I am not one to say who can and cannot enter Ireland and judge their reasons why, but I can say it is quite upsetting for Ukrainians to see large quanities of the nationality that is trying to eradicate them moving into the same accommodation. I like to think how would the Tutsi refugees who fled the Genocide in Rwanda feel if they were put into housing alongside Hutu men. Not good I would say.

The large figure of Georgians coming into Ireland now seem to be heavily Russian speaking young men, which is a bit suspicious. Some Georgian news sources are saying that Russians are using Georgia as a staging point to travel elsewhere. It does make sense when you factor in that this increase in Georgian men coincides with the influx of Russian men into Georgia. It would be easy to book a flight from Tbilisi and “lose” your documents on the way.

  11. Wouldn’t this go against the governments own planning laws? From the video I saw the office hasn’t actually been converted into apartments they just put up some dividers and mattresses

  12. Usual mix of the fash jumping on bandwagon at the ‘legitimate’ protest apparently.

Suppose the whole lockdown grift needed replacing. Wonder what they’d be banging on about if there wasn’t a war and refugees, probably 5G or the likes. Still though, gotta keep those gofundme’s going.

  13. I’m as welcoming as most Irish people but these kinds of decisions are going to be a huge mistake.
Sadly I’m afraid a vocal minority will prevent the honest discussion around this in favour of pointing the finger and calling everyone racist.

Alls you have to do is look at the UK or France to know this is not going to end well for Ireland.

  14. Not the migrants fault but they have entered a scenario of a chronic housing shortage, people are angry.

Unfortunately this is going to lead to misdirection of said anger.

  15. Simple answer to this lads.

Put them all up in upper middle class areas.

Champagne socialists have a real opportunity here to live their dream.

  16. Literal bus loads of exclusively single young men claiming “asylum”. Not a woman, child or elder to be found among them from what I saw in the video. Totally normal and above board. Sure why would you expect to see the most vulnerable members of a society fleeing here ?

  17. If the National Party are the only people actively campaigning against hordes like this… why are people on here celebrating them being attacked?

  18. you can’t blame them.

FFG somehow propping up buildings for foreigners yet thousands of citizens are homeless. And so many people just don’t see it yet, shame I guess.

Also these are all military aged young (likely single) men (and not even ukranian!). This screams sweden

  19. I admittedly came on here fearing that many would be calling the protestors racists and nazis, pleasantly surprised at the adult discussion. I had been beginning to fear that the concept of nuance had died away in the last few years.

Regarding the issue; Why is the EU ordering we take these people in? What is the goal here, I am confused I mean are we to believe the all of these ‘leaders’ are that stupid and lacking in foresight? At this stage I think it is naive to believe this. I don’t know what is going on but it isn’t right and I fear there is malevolence driving it. I hope not though, I really do.

All that being said I just hope that these refugees don’t A): Get attacked by locals out of fear or whatever, or attacked in general, creating unhelpful racial tensions and fuel for the far-left to further politicise the issue and make it one that can’t be discussed without being branded fascist scum, and B): I really really REALLY hope that the refugees behave themselves

  20. Putting hundreds of refugee men with too much time on their hands into areas where there’s socio economic problems

    What can possibly go wrong?
