  1. Actually those are distraction poles placed there by Switzerland in cooperation with the EU, so that if Germany ever gets any ideas, they try to invade the wrong poles and end up in switzerland instead, where they will of course be completely assimilated into the local German speaking parts where they will of course be completely neutral.

  2. I think to delemitate the road edges in winter when the snow cover the sides of the road. These are common in all alpine lands, so also in Austria, Italy, France, and in Scandinavia, Iceland, practically in all place that the snow in a very common thing.

  3. They are limiting the amount of snow allowed to fall over night. Should more snow fall, workers would not be able to find the road to clear, which is clearly unacceptable.
