Turkey falls out of list of world’s top 20 largest economies, where it has been since 1990

  1. Blame the currency… and Erdogan sacking his bankers… especially those who didn’t rubber stamp his “odd” monetary policies.

  2. My understanding is that the Erdogan/Bahceli regime is convinced the citizens of Turkey do not mind. “They have the Dollar,” Erdogan used to say of Western countries, “but we have Allah”.

  3. Based on this list, there have obviously been some movement, as an example, China has moved up from number 11 to number two.

The bottom three of the last list, Sweden, Turkey and Belgium has fallen out, the three new ones are Russia (11), Indonesia (16), and Saudi-Arabia (19).

  4. Expecting an attack on the Kurds soon.

In the summer there were wild fires he could blame on the Kurds.

In Turkey when you want your citizens to look the other way while you rob them, tell them there is a Kurd supported by the West who is going to take your home.

  5. If its true that Iran has surpassed Turkey in GDP, despite having to deal with US sanctions and having a similar population as Turkey, I believe that to be a damning figure for Erdogan

  6. In the 1960s/1970s we were the same level of development as South Korea (both largely agrarian underdeveloped societies). Where we could have been…for fuck sake.

  7. What is this list they presented? Iran is not in top 20 by any estimates, World Bank, UN or IMF. In IMF and World Bank Turkey is 19th and in UN it’s 20th.

Edit: I already know what happened, IMF f up and in their October estimate presented all the countries with GDP **nominal** while Iran data is GDP **PPP**. Simple trick and they doubled their GDP since April, when IMF last made estimations (from 680 to 1081 billion $) 😀

So, no. Iran is not top 20 and consequently Turkey is still in top 20, because it was not pushed out by Iran.

  8. Good. If Erdogan and Bahceli still has 40% votes, then Turkey deserves it. I’m hoping people will literally starve.

I have a good salary (which I still don’t like since I can get 2x easily on EU or even more in the US), yet I keep protesting and risking stuff while these poor fuckers keep voting for Erdogan.

I can turn the news off and live an European lifestyle easily, yet I’m accustomed to pepper spray since high school. And the poor people getting fucked by Erdogan still keep calling us terrorists and I have no doubt if they had the chance they’d happily behead secular people.

  9. This is really unavoidable as many more developing nations are catching up to Europe. I even expect my country will leave the top 20 in my lifetime. But Turkey has 84 million for god’s sake. They should be doing much better economically.

  10. Man, I would love Erdoğan if I was an enemy of Turkey. You don’t need to do anything extra, he already is destroying the country by himself for his personal gains. Luckily, he is a goner.

  11. Welp, this is why I got the fuck out. Now I’m still in a dictatorship(China) but at least it has a functioning economy.

If the choice is censorship with a shit economy and censorship with a good economy, I’m going to choose the latter. Expect many other educated or skilled Turks to jump ship soon, plenty of engineers I know applied for Canadian and EU work visas. Hell, my own parents are planning to head to Greece or Italy.
