Sunak and Hunt out of touch with working class, say ‘red wall’ voters

  1. They’re not wrong. Budget punishes any working class or lower middle class person who dares to try to succeed. Whilst leaving the truly wealthy almost entirely unaffected.

  2. Ah yes, the wonderful town of Leigh who voted for [this](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/feb/25/tory-mp-james-grundy-apologises-after-exposing-himself-in-pub) charming bloke last time around.

So they think Sunak and Hunt are out of touch with the working class? But presumably they thought that Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson was “one of them”.

I do hope the coming recession isn’t too hard on them and their thriving, bustling town. No, really.

  3. >“I voted Tory at the last election, but would I do it again? I’m not sure,” said Tracy,

What on earth do you need to be sure, Tracy?! I mean seriously.

This is why I’m so concerned about the next election; “don’t knows” becoming Conservative voters after being bombarded with “Labour are woke”, “Labour want illegal immigrants to live in your shed”, “Starmer = Corbyn” headlines for the next 2 years.

  4. Theyve never been in touch with the working class. That said they do know how to create an enemy to get them angry at and they are pretty good at it.

Mental that if you work and aren’t in benefits though you’ve been told the cavalry ain’t coming. You ain’t getting a payrise close to inflation and any rise you do get will be gobbled up even faster by fuel tax rises, council tax rises, increases on bloody everything except for tax bands. Shits fucked if you are just above the benefits line but below pension age your on your own.

Then to add insult to injury you’ll have to pay in longer to get your pension as they are putting that up too.

  5. Fuck those people, if the Tories bought back Johnson it would be –

“Hes a bit of a laugh, you could go for a pint with him, not like that posh boy Starmer”

They would vote conservative again in a heartbeat if their favourite clown got back in the ring.

  6. No shit. Sunak is a politician but has a net worth rivalling that of some of the biggest business owners in the UK. Other PMs may have come from solidly middle class backgrounds but Sunak is on another level these days, it is like expecting the royal family to be in touch with the struggle of the average person.

  7. Would this be the same red wall who voted for joris Bonson?

    Reep your reward.

I have a shortage of fucks to give

  8. Of course they will, there an election in less than two years, so they’ll be hoping to fool people into voting for them and if they did manage too fool enough people to get back in power, it’ll all go back to helping the rich get even rich, which by then would be easier for them, because working people won’t have any rights and be forced to work for dinner money wages of more than sixty hours a week.

  9. Sure, they may not be likeable, they may not be relatable, I get all that. But the first big Sunak decision was literally something Labour could do and be praised for that – increase taxes, especially for wealthier people. I’m really not sure what Sunak would have to do for people here to react positively.

  10. Part of me really does agree with raising benefits and pensions in line with inflation, protecting the most vulnerable is the mark of a good society. The problem I do have though is that if you take out those people, those you are left with is working people (I know some on benefits do work) whose pay is not rising with inflation and who’s lives are getting worse. How can it be on the workers to make a sacrifice not reflected by all of society. Where has this “all in this together” rhetoric gone in the space of a few weeks?

  11. Boris was completely out of touch with them but a load of them voted for him because he’s a jokey fella and had some good slogans

  12. Why so cynical? I saw a picture of Rishi with Klaus Schwab the other day. I bet he was asking him for advice on how to make us all happy. Well, Klaus has got this evidence based theory that if ve own nashing, ve vill be heppy. So, how on earth can you arrive at the conclusion that they are out of touch if they are socialising with a man that knows how to makes us all happy?

  13. Weird. Not something that usually springs to mind with corrupt, elitist, multimillionaire, oligarch-bumming slags. What gave it away?

  14. Two multi millionaires, who went to private school are out of touch with working class voters 🤔

  15. 10% increase to min wage.
    10% increase to benefits + between £900 and £1350.
    10% increase to state pension.
Subsidised energy to continue beyond April.
    Increased spending for NHS.
    Increased spending for education.

Massive subsidies all going to be used disproportionately by red wall voters.

Highest tax threshold reduced to £125k from £150k.
All income tax thresholds frozen until 2028.
Cap gains threshold reduced to £3k from £12k.
    Dividend threshold reduced to £1k

Massive tax increases disproportionately going to affect London and the South.

So you have one of the biggest transfers of wealth in British history from London and the South to the Red Wall and the North, yet still the Red Wall feel hard done by?

Laughable. Along with anyone who brainlessly upvotes nonsense like that.

  16. Even if they knew anything about working people, they don’t care. The Tory party isn’t there to represent working people and it’s foolish to believe them when they say they are.

  17. The Tory party is incompatible with the working class people. Most working class folk think they’re so-called middle class yet they are one paycheque from being homeless. Yet these folk still vote for the Tory party because somehow they think, or don’t think. The Labour party is meant to be for the working class albeit lost its way back in the nineties with Tory Bliar.
