Jeremy Corbyn joins Baristas to launch campaign to unionise

  1. What we really need is an end to zero-hours contracts and to stop the exploitation of bullshit apprenticeships. Unionisation is great and necessary, however it will not be enough to fix the issues coffee chains, fast food outlets and supermarkets all love to exploit. We also know that mega-corporations like this will ignore unions, do their best to crush them and use scab workers when needed. These companies need to be forced to change due to official legislation, people pressure will sadly not be enough.

  2. To be fair I’m not sure I’d call the people making coffee at Starbucks and Pret *baristas*.

A general hospitality workers union makes some degree of sense though.

  3. I do find that unions also need to focus on the lazy worker, to help those members that actually get partly shafted by them.
(As an example I’ll use the typical scenario where unions fight for the removal of performance related bonus because of the under achieving and minimal effort 10% or whatever that number is)

Sorry, but I said it. I agree the companies, the government, those in power in whatever situation have a lot to answer for and need some form of challenge in numbers, but at the same time, those that play the system, whatever that is, need to be challenged and made to put in the same effort as everyone else, otherwise, as above, it affects the honest worker / person.

Aware this will get misconstrued or twisted into me saying that I love corporations or Tories or some crap.
