  1. I hate this Tesco clubstapo policy. It pisses me off.

Everything is twice the price unless you let us track all your purchases.

  2. They’ve a Christmas tree for €240 without a card or €90 with. Someone really needs to look into this crap at an official level. To the best of my knowledge no other supermarket does this. Sure they offer you a €10 off €50 voucher or something once a week or whatever but they don’t screw you to this extent if you don’t sign up. There needs to be some regulation around this sort of thing.

  3. It has made me stop shopping in tesco. The clubcard prices are a rip off, they are not discounted, but making it appear that you are getting a “deal” if you have a clubcard. Then they are fleecing people who don’t have a clubcard, people who don’t go to tesco often.

  4. Someone needs to tell the people working in Tesco marketing that making a product ludicrously expensive, and then making it only slightly more expensive with a club card doesn’t make people think the club card is a good deal, it makes them think Tesco is an absolute ripoff and that they should go to Lidl instead.

  5. I’m up north where they have the same scheme, but the Clubcard “savings” don’t seem to be anywhere near as dramatic as what I’ve seen in down south?

Is there any reason for this, or is it just confirmation bias on my part?

  6. Theres only one reason that this has started happening – data.

You have a clubcard, they can see exactly what you buy, when you buy, spending patterns etc. this is all about mass collection of data and market trends to use to get you to consume more

They are not rewarding you for having a clubcard, it’s the opposite, they are punishing you for not having one, forcing you to give up your data

  7. Off – topic a bit, but I look at that and all I see is a shitload of cheap plastic going to landfill.

I hope nowadays more people will be making an effort to decorate their homes with some more environmentally-friendly ornaments given the environmental crisis.

Compostable holiday wreaths made from actual plants such as holly, yew, acuba japonica and skimmia japonica with some pine cone picks look beautiful and are fun to make each year on a reusable wire frame.

Try to choose tree ornaments made out of paper, wood, ceramic, natural fabrics, metal, glass… materials that are either biodegradable, buy-it-for-life, or fully recyclable.

Also, plastic Christmas trees have been shown to be worse for the environment in the long run than sustainability farmed Christmas trees, though if you have a plastic one already the most sustainable thing you can do is to just keep using it forever even when it’s worn out, to keep it out of landfill as long as possible.

  8. Please stop buying mountains of plastic American shit just because it’s Christmas. It’ll be giant inflatable Santa’s on the lawn soon.

  9. That’s clearly a rip off. But as someone who shops there regularly, there are clear savings with the club card prices. When I do a shop, I will buy a lot of the clubcard deals.

I was in recently and a staff member asked if a customer could use my club card to get a deal which I thought was decent.

  10. I work in tesco and there taking the piss with the prices since this club card offer scheme came out . Best one is a 7ft Xmas tree for 240 but with you clubcard it’s 90 euro . There completely exploiting there’s customer’s. As if things aren’t expensive enough these days .
    Every little helps my hole.

  11. If this strategy is successful for Tesco, other retailers will copycat. You’ll end up with 10 new apps on your phone just to get stuff at a normal price on a days shopping in Kildare village. Imagine the fucking annoyance of that.

  12. I avoid tesco these days because of this shit.

You either need a clubcard to be “allowed” to pay the normal price (no actual discount), or don’t have a clubcard and get ridden up the arse with prices.

Total disrespect for the customer. They are trash.

  13. it’s weird, I used to pop into Tesco every so often. Now I actively choose not to shop there because of this. Can someone explain how this makes sense to Tesco
