I asked AI today what is best about Switzerland – do you agree?

  1. The food… meh. Friendly and welcoming not so much either. “cultural diversity” can be said of virtually every country. The rest is pretty on point.

  2. I used Logseq and OpenAI. I did not edit the reply. My own words are “The best things about switzerland are…” everything else is AI.

  3. Food is average at best from what ive experienced so far, and the people are nice enough to your face but I’m willing to bet have strong prejudice against foreigners that they don’t show because they are non-confrontational.

That isn’t to say all the food is average or that all the swiss are unwelcoming but just as there are bad eggs in every country these are things that are a little more obvious to me as a foreigner living here

  4. The food isn’t that good. I mean, it is, but it’s also not. Cheese and potatoes are amazing, but it’s cheese and potatoes. No one wants to eat big bowls of cheese and potatoes every day.

What I’m trying to say is that apart from a few of very heavy cheese dishes, there is not really that much much culinary culture in Switzerland. Plenty of better countries for food.

And that’s only talking about traditional swiss food. When it comes to variety in restaurants or take out joints, Switzerland ranks very poorly. It’s always French, Italian, Burger, Pizza, or Kebab. Very little innovation in this regard. No street food culture whatsoever.

To sum it up, trad swiss food is amazing… to eat twice a year. It severely lacks variety and is far too heavy and rich to make up a diet. On the other hand, foreign food is often done very poorly, and there is little variety in what is actually available

The only upside is that the available ingredients in shops tend to be very good quality, except for the seafood.

  5. food – no
friendly & welcoming – no hahaha nooo
diversity – puuh, maybe depends on the definition
    outdoor – yes
ZH – compared to Olten??? no way

  6. Zürich is interesting in the sense that it has a lot of things to do there but especially in comparison with other swiss cities it’s ugly as hell.

And about food, people go to a touristy restaurant owned by some foreign business that charges 50.- for a basic meal and go eat low quality fondue in the middle of summer. It’s gonna be horrible and service is also gonna be horrible because of chronically underpaid staff.

Listen to locals when looking for a place to eat and you’ll have a great time. In fact listen to locals about pretty much everything because our tourist sector has been hijacked so hard.

  7. Yes, food is terrible. Only country I have been to with *worse* food was UK, but that’s a low bar. Both Italy and France have better food.

  8. If you limit Swiss cuisine to alpine cuisine (Rösti, fondue, Raclette) then yes it is quite mediocre. However as Switzerland is such a small country, basically all European cuisine surrounding Switzerland can be counted to its dishes. Minestrone and risotto are common dishes in Tessin, onion tart in basel, Zürcher Geschnetzeltes which is basically veal in gravy and therefore universal European as well….

Besides it’s not even asked how Swiss cuisine is but rather what the situation is. Switzerland hosts many great restaurants including four three star Michelin restaurants (so as many as China). So yes Swiss cuisine is actually good.

  9. Everybody hating on Swiss food and I don’t know why. We have German kitchen, French kitchen, Italian Kitchen, Grisons kitchen. Everybody can find something they like.

  10. Yeah, not the food.

Cultural diversity: kind of. More like the culture inherited many traits from multiple neighboring countries.

  11. Hehe four and five are questionable.

For the last point- while it pains me to say- Zürich is not beautiful. Just the touristy areas.

  12. “the food is delicious”; “people are friendly and welcoming”

Can confirm this is AI. It never actually tasted the food here and hasn’t had any real social interactions. 😂

  13. You’ll never find people saying anything positive about Swiss food in this subreddit. But real ones know it’s true.

  14. food is delicious? What? I sometimes seriously consider driving 3 hours south just so I can eat something with a little flavour…

  15. American who lived in Bern between 2017-19 here. 100% agree with 1,2,6 & 7. 50% agree with 3, best chocolate, cheese and white wine I’ve ever had is from Switzerland, everything else is a bit like food that would be served in a hotel restaurant. 100% disagree with 4 & 5. People are cold and dull, and though there is amazing cultural diversity between cantons, if we’re talking world cultural diversity, Switzerland has a long way to go. Just my take.

  16. Food not delicious. People not friendly. Polite yes, friendly no. Cultural diversity? LMFAO you can go weeks with seeing a person of color.
