The consensus from yesterday was – this type of bike lane isn’t safe for cyclists as it has the entrances of bussiness breaking its continuity. Could we just remove them and make the road 1.5-Metres / 5-feet wider on each side instead to make it easier for everyone? Lets be practical we’re not Dutch

We should just built proper bike lanes
I’d like to see an example of an ideal urban bike lane
Some roads are in worse conditions than the footpaths, but you don’t see traffic driving on them
There is loads of room for you to pass there.
If you are a bad driver and don’t think you can pass and leave enough room, you can either
A) Just slow the fuck down and stay behind the bikes or
B) wait until the other side of the road is clear so you have extra room to overtake
If the just slowed down a little they would be fine
there is a massive construction site there too so massive truck driving up & down smallish road all day long. not helping matters. citywest business park area
>the entrances of bussiness breaking its continuity.
They must have the same “breaking continuity” issue with traffic lights.
If you expand the road and don’t put markings in to designate bike roads, cars will simply fill the extra space. That will just result in more danger and more accidents
Who took the photo?
Widening roads doesn’t make them safer, it makes them more dangerous. Google stroads
The same traffic crosses the cycle lane as pulls out onto the main road.????
It should say, “let’s be dumb about this”, not practical.
If there’s a bike lane cyclists should get the fuck in there.
2 dead as bus driver takes photos of cyclists whilst driving, claims motivated by safety concerns
The bike lane isn’t ideal, but the same is true of lots of roads. There’s a staggered junction out near Donadea that I take my life into my hands to cross every day.
The cyclists should be in the cycling lane and deal with it.
At the same time, we should demand better infrastructure for cyclists. The two aren’t mutually exclusive lads.
It won’t matter. Cyclists still won’t use it and will still tell you they have a right to the road.
What consensus? If anything the consensus is that money was spent creating a safe, segregated cycle path, away from traffic and these 2 are just being ignorant.
If you’re not going to use expensive infrastructure provided at your behest, for your safety, then we should stop wasting money on it or fine them for not using it where provided.
Road tax for cyclist?
Is it not ideal to have bike lanes off the road? Cyclists seem to go where they want in my experience regardless of Saftey. A good cycle infrastructure is important in our city’s but they do them selfs no favours. Get them off the roads and into lanes. I hope we look back in 10 years and think how insane it was to have cyclists shoulder to shoulder with buses and trucks. Hit a patch of ice or a one of a hundred other things and you dead, the driver might get the blame but what good is that to you
Doesn’t matter what you build or do they’ll always make excuses and not use the cycle lanes. Need to make it illegal for them to use the road if there’s a functional cycle lane there otherwise they’ll always be like “B-b-but it’s not utopian and perfect and doesn’t suck my cock when I’m in that cycle lane plus something something Netherlands”.
Maybe rephrase as “Let’s try to be practical, even though we are not Dutch”?
That’s like saying the pavement isn’t safe for pedestrians because it has breaks for entrances to houses/businesses, that’s stupid
