Well if this doesn’t read like a TodayFM bait post I don’t know what does
Left the back room door open while the ham was cooling out there.
Dad walked in on the dog (Jack Russell) up on the table tearing into it.
Mam nearly killed me.
That turkey looks dry as fuck
tbf all my ones have been good so I guess im lucky in that regard. one year my da got a fish off of someone he knew so we had just a big cooked fish in the middle fo the table.
Actually Id say the worst one for the awkwardness was when my mum basically put her foot down with some stuff my grandma on my dads side was saying and then my grandma got in a bit of a strop
We visited family in Blanch, and on the way home decided we’d better go see my great aunt. The mother and sister (the cooks) decide to get locked on vodka with said aunt. They attempted cooking when we got home. It was atrocious. Myself and the dad were not impressed.
Nothing to do with life hacks and everything to do with the other relatives having an oven that couldn’t cope with anything bigger than a chicken in it. Took so long that by the time it was ready everyone was drunk and we went home disappointed. Cooked a better one ourselves the following day in a few hours.
At home it’s always dry meat and overcooked vegetables.
Vegan nut loaf
I cooked a goose last year with all the trimmings, was bored with turkey. Goose marinaded and seasoned the day before, well prepared! Unfortunately I wasn’t prepared for how dry and how little meat there was. An average chicken would have more meat!
My parents are the worst cooks ever, over cooked meat, over boiled veg and they get the timing all wrong so there is always something cold on the plate and something still in the oven. I do help with the dinner by the way.
My in-laws are chefs so when I go to their house it’s the best dinners you’ll ever get.
I’m a vegetarian and my mam has no idea what vegetarians eat, one Christmas she made me a “stuffed pepper” bell pepper stuffed with sage and onion stuffing and nothing else. I just cut up the whole thing so she thought I had eaten some.
Christmas with the in laws. My mother is a chef so growing up we had amazing Christmas dinners. She even cooks a moist turkey so I was generally confused when I heard people complain about it it having dry meat. Then I spent Christmas with the in laws. World of difference. The dinner had to be covered in gravy to give it some flavour and the turkey left me gasping for a drink. We have chicken for Christmas dinner here. No point in doing a turkey when it’s just 2 adults and 2 small kids.
Oven broke during cooking…ended up eating mash veg & sausages.😂
Sad times that year
I always thought Christmas dinner was shite till I cooked my own. Only 18, friends of mine had no family. we did our own Christmas. Turns out it’s not actually that difficult, just need to cook things on time.
Probably the best Christmas I ever had
Christmas eve dinner we had nibbles.
Chicken vol au vents.
Up at 7am to open gifts, puking with food poisoning by 8:30.
It was gorgeous but it was HUGE, and I know that’s normal, but well, it was ginormous. It looked like I barely made a dent in it but I was stuffed. I felt really bad. Loved it apart from that. Lil Awkward. Aunties house.
Ma made a sweet and sour veggie side for dinner, to go with the turkey and ham and everything. It wasn’t the worst, it was just weird and confusing and we all had to be polite because she doesn’t contribute normally.
On two diffrent years I made the same mistake of thinking that I will do my Christmas shopping after work on Christmas eve, because we close early. I then learned both times, so does everywhere else. On both those occasions I ended up getting a chicken from a petrol station.
Can’t think of one that wasn’t great. My mam was a amazing cook. Cornbread and sausage stuffing, turkey cooked with lemon and dill. Worst Christmas was the first one she wasn’t around to make dinner. I’ve tried to do what she did and the food was good…but not as good as she did. Can’t recreate the love your mam puts into your meal.
